This hotel should be renamed Palace of Incompetence & Dilapidated Rooms. Pick up any service or aspect of running a hotel, and this place falls woefully short on providing that even at a basic level. 
Right from the location to the service to staff training, everything is below basic quality standards. I don't know on what basis this hotel claims a 4-star rating. It doesn't deserve even one star. 

The location of the hotel is horrible. We had a hard time finding the place especially because of incorrect directions being given to us by people on the way. We finally called the hotel and instead of one person giving us the directions, they kept passing the phone to one another. Finally someone came on the line, and instead of explaining the directions, he started telling us how to drive. 'Watch the oncoming traffic. Check the cars behind you, and take a u-turn if there is no car headed towards you. '
Like, seriously?! Did he think my dad drove all the way from Delhi blind-folded?! 

Unfortunately, we had trouble with our car too and it kept stalling on steep roads. Though this is no fault of the hotel, they could have helped us better with proper information like leaving our car in the municipal parking area that was very close to the hotel. With aged parents in the car, it was a huge risk to go up at that level of incline. When we were struggling with the final ascent on the approach road right outside the hotel, we requested this person who was on the phone with us and giving us driving instructions to send someone who knew how to drive the car up safely because we were clearly not able to do it. At one point, we almost feared for our lives as the car rolled back on the steep slope.  But this person flatly refused and said he didn't have any driver. 
The ascent was so steep that we actually contemplated parking the car there itself and carrying all the luggage up by hand. Somehow, we were able to get the car uphill and reached the parking area of the hotel. We thanked our stars that we were all alive and no mishap had occurred. 
We immediately decided not to use our private vehicle for local travel and instead walk or use the cabs since that way my dad wouldn't have to maneuver the steep incline every time. 

As we entered the hotel, we expressed our concerns on how we would get back down etc. The person who had been giving us directions reassured us and said, "I'll have someone drive it down for you." 
I was dumbstruck at this response! Could he have not helped us get the car uphill too then? I was surprised at how quickly he agreed to help us later when his tone was so different on the phone. 
But that can also be ignored. After a long drive and the extremely stressful drive to the hotel, we were looking forward to relaxing in the room. But more shocks awaited us.
To state that the room we were assigned was dirty, is putting it extremely mildly. 
We were shocked to see the physical condition of the room. Paint was cracking and peeling off on ALL the walls. There was seepage-like filth all across the room. The skirting of the room (the edge where the wall meets the floor) was dirty and blackened with disrepair. 
The bedsheets and linen looked unclean and unironed. 
There was a thick layer of dust on almost all surfaces including tables, mirror, set-top box holder. There were insects in the bathroom and in the room. 
The towels are all yellowed and stained, as if they hadn't been washed after use. 
Basic sanitation and hygiene was missing all over the hotel and this is something we noticed on all the days we stayed. 

Obviously, we were extremely upset after seeing the condition of the room and we at the staff to do it again. Even then they were not doing it properly and leaving out corners and under the bed and cupboard. We had to get the room cleaned again, a third time, in front of us. We got the sweeping done twice and during the second time, there was still dust and dirt that was coming out. 
This is despite that the room would have been cleaned after the previous guest checked out. 

While all this was going on and we hadn't even properly settled into the room, someone from the Front Office came to tell us about the charges for extra bed. 
After we had checked in, they demanded extra payment for the extra bed, which was much higher than the amount quoted at the time of booking. 
I was actually surprised that the hotel thought it was good timing to tell the guest to pay up extra at a time when they hadn't provided even basic services.
We still kept our cool and pointed out that we had been quoted a lower amount at the time of booking. 

When we had booked a triple room, we had mentioned that we would need an extra bed for a third adult. They failed to mention it then that they don't have cots and the extra bed would mean they would provide us with an extra mattress that would be placed on the floor. After seeing the condition of the room, we completely lost our cool and refused to sleep on the floor. Magically, the cot also appeared then. 

After a while, we heard another occupant yelling at the housekeeping staff because their room was so filthy and dirty.

There was a strong smell of smoke in the room. I guess the room was not properly aired out and freshened up after the previous guest left. 

At night, while putting the extra bed, again the house keeping staff did such a shoddy job of laying the bedsheet and bed covers. They were walking away when they actually had to be reminded that they had left the bed cover hanging from one side. 
When we asked them to tuck the bed cover under the mattress, the man had the audacity to glare at me and answer back instead of realizing his mistake. 
It is basic common sense that if you leave loose cloth on the floor like that anyone could trip over and hurt themselves. With elderly parents and such a claustrophobic room as the one we were given, it is best to keep the floor free of obstruction. Yet, the staff did not have this basic sense of how to make a bed. 

They did change the room the next day after much complaining, and this new room was marginally better. 

They have the old type of geysers which take 25 mins to heat the water. The geyser gives only one bucket of water at a time, and then you wait for 25 mins for a second bucket. So if you are a family of four including young kids in one room, you can expect that it will take you a total of at least two hours just to get ready.

The dining area was another disaster zone. Basic cleanliness was missing here too. The buffet spread was limited, and the food quality was just average. The spread of dishes was exactly the same on all the days except for a change of one dish. 

The staff is untrained and lacks basic courtesy and skills, as is evident in the three instances I shared above. 

The hotel is in desperate need of renovation. The only attractive thing about this hotel is the exterior facade. It smartly covers up all the inadequacies of the interior of the hotel which I guess is the management's intention anyway. 

Despite all the complaints, no one from management bothered to meet us and apologize for the horrible experience. They clearly take their guests for granted.

One would think after all these goof ups, the team would take extra care to ensure nothing else went wrong. But no! 

We had an early checkout the next day and had requested for a packed breakfast. Despite repeatedly informing them we wanted sliced bread, and not toast; at the time of checkout, they handed us toast. We had to delay our departure just to get the order right. 

Please stay away from this hotel if you value your hard earned money and want a pleasant experience in exchange for what you pay.

Pathetic. Filthy. Waste of money. Please stay away!

The property is excellent, with nice rooms and the advantage of having its own parking. It boasts a great location with peaceful surroundings. The staff is very cooperative, particularly in the service department, where they are well-mannered and polite. The food was delicious, and dining options were good. Cleanliness was also well-maintained.

Great Experience with The palace balvedere

The property is a heritage hotel located near Nainital Lake, close to Mall Road. It offers a pleasant stay for families with very nice food quality. Known as a good heritage hotel in Nainital, it boasts friendly staff. We enjoyed our time there, overall a great experience. Staying here will not disappoint you, especially the wonderful lake-facing rooms.

Great Hotel

This hotel offers a royal palace ambiance with its stunning rooms. I stayed in room 203, which was exceptional. The food quality was excellent, and the dinner buffet was particularly impressive, with delicious flavors. The dining room features a lovely lake view, allowing you to enjoy breakfast while overlooking the lake. Everything about my stay was fantastic, and I had a great experience.

Great Hotel in Nainital

Our stay in Palace Belvedere was memorable. The hotel is awesome, the food was delicious.the hotel service was very good.in the evening we enjoyed live music during the dinner. Overall my experience is amazing

Lifetime experience

We recently had a very disappointing experience at Palace Belvedere. The approach to the hotel was poor, and things only got worse once we checked into our room. For 6100 Rs, we were shocked to find a room in terrible condition, worse than a storeroom. The wall paint was faded, the bed was dirty, and there were spitting stains on the walls. I do not recommend this hotel to anyone. You’re better off booking a lounge for 500-700 Rs. Avoid Palace Belvedere at all costs

Palace Belvedere was a huge disappointment

Poor experience and worst stay. No hospitality at all. Condition of room is poor with leaking taps and insects. Very few staff actually care for customer. Experienced health issues after consuming food. Please avoid this hotel if you can or its your risk

Worst stay and poor rooms

We booked the Deluxe room for two days @ 14000 approx from 8th June to 10th of June 2024. The room was not worthy at all compared to the charges. It was not even cleaned properly when we checked in . A layer of dust was there on bedside and on telephone and side table and no one bothered to clean it, finally cleaned ourselves. The things placed in the room to give it a look of heritage property are worthless. The washroom lacked basic amenities like dental kit & shaving kit. The sink tap kept on leaking continuously and no one bothered to get it repaired wasting a lot of precious water. Location is otherwise ok but approach to the property is horrible for people with knee problem and elderly people. You need to use taxi or bike driver to reach the place. Only expert driver can climb  the steep slope.

One thing which was a plus food which was if not best was above average. The buffet was okay although the spread was less not much options. The staff there was quick and look after you well. The furniture needs to be taken care of the top of some tables dances make it difficult to eat. Yes one more thing if you need some item or even tea your way , you have to pay for that, which I never saw in any of the hotels I visited. 

The super deluxe rooms are spacious but can't say about facilities. A distant view of the lake is there but only from the upper floors and Lil from the dining area.

Lastly when we checked out and our luggage was to be dropped down the steep slope to the main road we were asked to pay the porter although we otherwise also going to tip him. They must provide pick and drop service till mall road, like Welcome Heritage hotel does, where we stayed last time.

Not atll satisfied, If it's season & you are charging more for that, then you should also raise your service standards. Really disappointed. I had booked it after reading various reviews but now I feel they can be misleading.

Avoid it - Can find better options @ same price.

It is an overrated property. The rooms are dingy and not at all maintained. The bed sheets and pillow covers, towels were stained. Room was not cleaned properly and you can see cobwebs at various places. It is mentioned as a palace but it is like an ordinary hotel.
