From initial booking enquiry through to departure, my experience was nothing but exceptional. Sunil, the owner and host, of this small, but cosy homestay really has got a good thing going here and he is truly passionate about running, and constantly improving his homestay. 

The property is clean and the rooms have reliable AC and working hot water. Decent WiFi too. The location is also perfect - in a quiet local village spot by the canal, with views over the paddy fields, where you can watch evening sunsets or relax in a hammock.

I have stayed in various homestays all over the world and this experience ranks as one of the best. Sunil goes the extra mile to ensure guests are comfortable and enjoy their stay - whether this is by providing unlimited bottled water, acting as a local guide by recommending what to see / where to go, or socialising over a superb home-cooked (Sunil is a great cook!) meal with a couple of beers after a day out sightseeing. He even has a bike that you can use to explore the local area - this was a highlight of my stay.

If you are panning to visit the backwaters then do not think twice about booking to stay here. I almost decided to stay in Alleppey, but am glad I didn't. Erathra Homestay offers the real backwater experience where you can observe, and be a part of, local life, away from the hustle and bustle of the town.

Sunil - my thanks to you (and Tiger!) again for making my stay a pleasurable and relaxing finale of my grand tour of India. It was a real insight learning more about India from you and I enjoyed our evening discussions about life.

A delightful stay with a charming and enthusiastic host!

Enjoyed an exciting 4 day stay just off what i call the "Aqua Highway", i.e. the river/backwaters/canal system well laid out and maintained in Alleppey. Sunil was the perfect host, catering to our stay and culinary needs, hats off to him...
Erathra is a well-appointed homestay and overlooks the waterway, with exotic houseboats of every shape and size making it a great viewing experience...

For us, Sunil's Erathra provided the perfect homestay experience. The house is well positioned between river and rice fields and for easy use of local ferries. Sunil cares very much for his guests and he is a great source of knowledge and information. We really enjoyed chatting with Sunil during our 4 night stay. The perfect homestay experience

better late then never!!! My first tripadvisor review I am writing for you and your Erathra Homestay. Thank you again for the most excellent experience at your home!!! 

During our South India travels in December 2016 my wife and I wanted to stay at a Homestay in the Backwaters of Kerala. Our choice fell to Sunil and his house outside of Alleppey at the beginning of the Backwaters. 

Sunil's house is situated directly at the water with a two floors. The second floor is built up and includes two guest rooms. Ground floor includes Sunils private area and kitchen. From the room you have a view of the river on one side and a view of the rice fields on the other side. Sunset view guaranteed. The rooms are basic but very clean, bathroom with hot running water and A/C. The experience includes washing facilities, Wifi. Dinner and breakfast are extra but highly recommended.  

We recommend that you take your time there and ask Sunil to cook dinner for you. He will cook a true South Indian dinner for you!!! We joined him during the cooking and he basically gave us a cooking lesson on top. We still cook his Chicken Curry recipe at home. Before dinner we watched the sunset together with a nice cool sundowner beer that Sunil organized for us.
