Beautiful, authentic Greek apartments, set back from the main road to provide peace and quiet and a lovely view down to the sea. Extremely comfortable beds and very efficient air conditioning.  Excellent wifi. Our balcony looked onto lime trees and the garden was well-kept with a mix of flowers, vegetables and olive trees. Shower room was basic Greek-style with very good water pressure.  I sometimes lay on a sunbed by the pool with the scent of lavender in the air, a change from lazy/relaxing time on the beach.  Mr Donkey was very friendly and keen for attention (and carrots) and the chickens pottered around happily. I did feel sorry for the poor dog kept in a small run but I suppose there's a cultural difference in the treatment of pets and animals. We had a great week at Villa Eliza.

Beautifully authentic

So glad I found this place. 
Located 5 minutes walk from the beach with nearby restaurants and a supermarket. The town is only a ten minute walk away with a good selection of bars and restaurants. It is a little uphill but it’s not steep and not as arduous as I expected after reading other reviews. 
Beautiful grounds with a rustic charm. Quiet and peaceful. 
Staff are polite and friendly and were always willing to help with any query.
Room was spotless and well maintained and had air-conditioning, t.v. and Wi-Fi. Sheets and towels changed daily. I didn’t use the pool as the beach was so close. I did notice it was cleaned daily and seemed to be well liked by others. 
Excellent value for money. 
I will definitely be booking again and wouldn’t hesitate to recommend to others.

A gem

If you are expecting a chocolate on your pillow every night, and your sheets turned down, then maybe this place isn’t for you. It is a traditional Greek accommodation, and it comes with some limitations, but for me , that is the charm of the place. Yes, there are some issues in the room, the shower maybe not the most modern (oh no…there’s no shower curtain…!!!) and the oven hobs may not be the most up to date, but I didn’t go there to cook myself hot meals, why would you go to Greece for that.

What I didn’t like 
I worried about the poor donkey that seemed not to have much of a life. I gave her as much love as I could, apples, pears, carrots and cucumbers, but was assured that she was okay and actually was free to roam when the tourists were gone.

Fantastic stay !

Some other reviews mention issues . Either they were very harsh or those issues have been fixed . Cleaner came every day , sea view was lovely , garden was beautiful , water pressure was excellent , kitchen was fine for self catering , bed was ideal . Skala is not far away , and the walk to the beach is very easy , there is a car park , ramp and stairs . Staff are all charming and helpful . I only left three days ago and me and my fiance are already talking about booking two weeks there next year . This is a lovely hotel with no real issues and in a great location , I wouldn't change a thing .

It was perfect

We actually stayed in Sept 22 but the review section doesn’t go back to then. Surprised to see this hellhole on TripAdvisor as the absent owner took it off Booking.com after our experience and many messages both to her and Which?.
Human waste, rubbish, rusting broken vending machines, broken furniture, dangerous electricity sockets, disgusting net curtains in a dangerously equipped basic room in which an old bed and table had been shoved in with no space around them. 
Not one ounce of care from arrival to departure the next morning. The owner’s bemused old grandmother had been left “in charge”. She spoke not one word of English unsurprisingly, putting me on the phone to her daughter who we understood had taken up residence in Paris while the money flowed in to this dreadful nightmare of a “hotel”.
The “shower” was basically a hosepipe on the wall of the basic, tiny room, soaking any loo paper (we had to ask the non speaking old woman for more every time we showered). It was meant to be a beautifully authentic 2 week holiday in a typically charming Greek hotel. I stayed in better when travelling with a rucksack when anything was better than sleeping in an open field. We fled this disaster the next morning and found a welcoming proper hotel up the road. It cost less too for everything you’d expect.
Booking.com accepted NO responsibility and suggested we contact the owner. We had obviously already done that until she stopped replying and took her truly awful property off Booking.com’s site.
So don’t believe her properly description, read between the lines on the reviews, and stay away from Booking.com (they’re not ATOL protected so you’ll never be reimbursed.)
Even locals in Skala knew all about this place, shaking their heads as they told us other stories. Even the receptionist in the hotel we stayed in eventually said her friend had booked it and left immediately, horrified by the date of it. 
One word, DON’T.

Truly appalling

We were two families, with 2, 19 year old's and 2, 16 year old's and spent 10 nights staying at Villa Eliza.  Villa Eliza is typically greek, basic apartments, in pretty gardens.

It is in a great location, 5 minute walk from the beach and the first set of restaurants.  There is a supermarket here too! 
The view is amazing, so it is up a hill which you can either reach by a slope or by steps, both are not that bad after a while and after 10 nights you certainly get used to it!  

Room:-  We stayed in the Maisonette's, these are basic rooms, with a large comfortable double bed on the bottom floor with a balcony with amazing views and then twin beds in the mezzanine area.  This is a separate room, that has a door that can be shut for privacy.  
You have to pay for air con (6 euro's a day), which works fine on the lower floor but it does struggle to reach the mezzanine, we were offered fans but unfortunately these did not appear throughout the stay.  There was also a Hornet's next in the rafters of the room, although these did not appear aggressive and seemed more interested in drinking the pool water than bothering people, but I would be wary if there were young children around. 
The rooms are very clean, and were on the whole cleaned daily during the first week, however the second week our room was not cleaned for the last 3 days of our stay, which when you have bins full up in bathrooms is not ideal! 

Pool area:- The pool area has amazing views and is a lovely area but the pool could be cleaner, on one of the days the pump was not on at all and we ended up cleaning the bugs out of the pool!   
The plus points that there was never any sun bed wars, always managed to get a bed whatever time of the day and there were only 14 in total.  

Bar:- There is a little bar on site, which we did not realise would be open, so was pleasantly surprised.  You can buy soft drinks, beer, wine, water and cheese and ham toasties. Be warned though, they do not like you bringing your own supplies by the pool!  
Maria who runs the bar and the hotel is lovely and extremely helpful!  Her English is excellent and she often will communicate with Villa Eliza's owner who lives on site.  

Other hotels:- We used a number of other hotels with their pools, Melidron (next door), Paspalis, Tara beach, you just need to buy a drink or food and you can use the sun loungers and pool all day.  

Beach:- The beach has some sand, but it is mainly shingle and pebble, but the sea is completely clear.  You can rent 2 sunlounger's for 15euro's a day with parasol and 20euro for a cabnana.  You get drinks service from the restaurants they are attached too.
There are pedalos, paddle boards, boats to hire, banana boat etc
We did a glass bottom boat tour, didn't see that much but it was nice to get out on the water for a bit. 

Restaurants/Bars:- Skala strip is a 7-10 minute walk away, with lots of great restaurants and bars.
We ate mostly at a different restaurant each night, all were good.  Captains bar, My way and Sally's bar for great cocktails and atmosphere, Metaza bar on the beach front for dancing.  

The pharmacy was excellent, I forgot some medication from home and they managed to replace it for me! 

On the whole Skala is a great resort, very clean and pretty, and we would definitely come back! 


Good holiday!

The rooms are very basic definitely not self catering it would be difficult to cook a meal plus sides beds very comfortable rooms are cleaned daily nice pool to swim in  the villa is at top of very steep hill a hard walk in blazing sun best advice hire a car so much easier and then you can visit all the beautiful beaches and places of interest first time in kefalonia and I'm in love 

Relaxing perfe

Let me begin with positives:
1. The location is less than 5 minuts from Skala beach - and Skala beach, although, not as spectacular as Myrtos or some others on Kefalonia, is fantastic to swim in. The water is clear and calm with wonderful views back on the island. Skala is quite pleasant, with plenty of good Tavernas.
2, The greenery of the Villa is lovely. Yes, there are large ants everywhere and wasps, but they dont bother you. What is more impressive is the lack of mosquitos. 

And now the negatives:
3. Self-catering facilites are not self-catering facilties. If you try and cook using them you might get the aged owner come down and scream at you - which happened to us. Even if you don't generate smoke there is no extractor fan for the cooking so your tiny apartment will smell. And yet, they say this is self-catering. There are two hobs literarlly attached to the sink. Not great.
4. If something does not work don't expect it to get fixed. A television is supplied and advertised as part of the room. Ours did not work - and, honestly, the friendly manager kept on saying she'll call the technician - but nothing was done. 
5. After a few days the regular shouting of the owner begins to feel like a nuisance. But, you might accept this as nothing to be bothered about. I have lived in and worked in Greece and this shouting did become tiresome as we were on holiday.
6. If you like dogs then turn away. Some Greeks do tend to cage large dogs outside. It feels cruel and unpleasant to see. There was one large dog caged near the parking area and I found this quite distressing this time, after having seen it before while living in Greece.

Finally, our overall impression after staying there for a week in July 2023 was that the Villa lacks genuine charm and relied on low expectations. 

None of this will bother you if you go in and don't hang about, cook much or worry about broken light switches and those kind of details.

Faded charms with more shortcomings than we wished for

We had the most beautiful stay in this villa- from stunning views, daily fresh eggs from Lucia, comfiest bed ever , perfect location (bit steep for the last couple of metres) and so near  for the beach and restaurants.  Skala was simple but had everything for a perfect break.  Absolute MamaMia! Thank you Lucia.. would love to return!  

Stunning villa

This place is beautiful with lovely gardens and a pool overlooking the sea. It is very very basic, no reception, no public toilet (bare that in mind if you have a late flight, like we did on your last day) rooms very basic but with the comfiest of beds however there was everything you would need for a few days stay. Unfortunately, these apartments are located on the steepest of hills, walking down is manageable however walking back up with the sun beaming on you is something else, you can get a taxi from the main area but there aren't many around. The apartments were lovely, but I wouldn't stay again because of that blooming hill that we still laugh about now.
