Our stay at the Villa Selena was beyond our expectations. The service was amazing and included delicious breakfasts provided in the morning on an outdoor patio by a very helpful hostess who provided lots of advice about things to do in the area. In the evening we sat in a rooftop patio with a beautiful view of the Mediterranean Sea. Across the road we had access to a pier and great swimming. We were a 10 minute walk from shopping and restaurants. The accommodations were lovely with a beautiful shared sitting room in addition to our private bedroom and bath.

When you set out for Syros, make sure Villa Selena comes your way! 

Once a private house, this lovingly renovated,neoclassical gem is perched on the hill, just behind the towering, sky-blue cupola of an imposing cathedral, with easy access to the port and the town centre and, provided you get a south-east room, with spectacular sunrise and sunset views over the Aegean sea. Even if you don't have the south-facing room, you can still sit on the balcony/entrance, which is set up with tables and chairs, and be part of the bustle of the street while overlooking the sea and slurping your coffee at breakfast or the stronger stuff at dusk. Our room was on the smallish side but extremely comfortable, clean and well-serviced.

It is run by two charming hosts whose only reason for breathing seems to be to look after your interests: to inform you on all Syrian matters of historical, cultural and contemporary   importance, such as the demise of the ship-building industry and the general state of youth unemployment; to advise you and give suggestions regarding tours, great beaches and restaurants; and to simply be there for you but imperceptibly so, friendly, helpful and informative. They also revealed to us the little-known fact that Syros is one of the few Greek islands that is not seasonally tourist-dependent; hence, it is possible to get closer to the natural, real and almost untouched, unaffected routine of the island. 

When you are taken on the tour of the house, you grunt your million omg's, instinctively, as you try to take in the care and the artistic sensitivity with which every square centimetre has been brought to life, be it the marble staircase, the well-considered colour scheme, the thematically-selected combination of furniture or the few but effective contemporary artworks. Even though all pubic areas exude a formality, they are still there, approachable and inviting as if they were yours and for you only to use and admire. 

The roof space/garden area has a particular feel due to the proximity of the cathedral with its celestial-blue dome right there in your face and due to the panoramic glimpses one has of the sprawling city to the north-west and the breathtaking deep, deep, dark blue of the Aegean to the south. We felt privileged and overwhelmed by it all. 

On our departure, we farewelled Syros with a refrain that still rings in our ears: when we set out again from home, whatever the destination, Syros and Villa Selena are bound to be in our way.

Neoclassical Gem in the Heart of Syros

This hotel is perfectly located overlooking the sea in the beautiful town of Hermoupolis. It's a short walk to the town centre and minutes from the sea (with bar and sunned area, right on the waterfront). Hotel extremely well maintained and comfortable and the staff are very friendly and helpful, we enjoyed fresh breakfast daily with beautiful views over the sea. highly recommended.

Charming boutique style hotel

Stayed in this beautifully renovated villa for 5 nights.  Our room had a beautiful view out to sea and access to a spacious and comfortable living area and outdoor deck. Spacious marble bathroom. Good position 5 minute walk to the town centre, across the road from a great bar/ eatery with views over the sea. We visited nearby Galissas beach twice - 15 minute bus ride - buses leave from next to the ferry terminal. Beautiful little beach with clear waters and beach umbrellas.
Most days we walked down to town and had a delicious bougatsa for breakfast from the little bakery called Thessalonikia. The Villa Selena staff were very friendly and helpful and gave us excellent recommendations for restaurants. I highly recommend this b&b.

Exceptional value, exceptional service

Villa Selena is a small boutique hotel situated in a beautiful street of Ermoupoli. Conveniently located near the centre of the city, it is only a 5 min walk from the central square and the beautiful Town Hall. The staff was very polite and gracious and did everything they could to accomodate our needs.

The rooms, as well as the common areas are built and decorated with very high quality materials and furniture. Although the rooms are not very spacious (201 & 202 on the first floor), they are well equipped, with a big cupboard for clothes, a minibar, espresso machine etc. The bathroom was also quite big, with marble surfaces. 

Although the hotel is situated in a very nice street, looking towards the see, the views from the rooms and the veranda are not spectacular, since they are obstructed by other buildings. However, the veranda offers a very nice space for (a great) breakfast or coffee with privacy.

I was also a bit confused with the 5 stars on the hotel logo near the entrance. I am not sure if the hotel has an official rating of 5 stars, but some services are surely missing if it does. (ie no dedicated parking, no fitness / spa / area, no pool) Room service stops early at night.

Overall, a perfect little hotel with great staff and service.

A cosy boutique hotel

Villa Selena, an old mansion, has been renovated and furnished with care and taste. I still remember it in ruins and I found the work done excellent. 
This boutique hotel is at the high end Vaporia neighborhood, its rooms -and especially the bathrooms- are spacious, and they provide facilities such as free nespresso in the rooms! It is impeccably clean and they serve a rich breakfast (actually they have a variety of options you can choose from, low calories' etc). 
But above all, what makes it a special place to stay is the personnel, 3 girls who are extremely friendly, cordial and effective! They have all the solutions and all the willingness to satisfy their customers' wishes. Our stay at the end of May (2 couples) would not have been the same without them.
I strongly recommend the accommodation, it is luxurious but feels more like family. And attention, it is non smoking all over.
