I chose this hotel as my flight from Munich Airport was really early next morning. From my side good recommended: Only 14min drive to the Airport, quite to rest, Friendly owner and 2-3 dinner options nearby walking distance away. If you like airplanes their landings and take-offs will keep you company - for me not annoying. 

Nice, cosy Hotel close to Munich Airport

This family operates a 20 room pension.  It is not far from MUC (<10 miles) in a rural town environment.  Modern facility with very clean rooms. Dining room is available for breakfast and several restaurants (Italian and Gernan) within easy walking distance.  Renada (sp?) even showed me where to go for a nice flat 3 or 4 mile run very close by. I only stayed one night but thoroughly enjoyed it. They even leave the refrigerator open and you can treat yourself to a beer and pay on check out! Cost was about $75.

The Location: in the village of Eitting.

The Room: Good-sized King-bed suite. Enough space for international travelers to unpack comfortably. Usual amenities were in the room. 
Minimalist, modern style. Furnishings were in reasonable repair. Views over the carpark/street. Air-con/heating worked well.

The Staff: All staff we encountered were pleasant and courteous.

Food: Onsite restaurant is located on the ground floor, pleasant views to the garden. Breakfast buffet included a modest variety of: cereals, yogurt, cheeses, meats (unfortunately only pork products), breads/pastries, hard-boiled eggs. 
We had takeaway dinner from the Italian restaurant which is literally across the road from the hotel.

Overall Impression: A pleasant, modern, quiet hotel for an overnight stay. Be advised that there is no lift, may be an issue for those who cannot carry their luggage up-/down-stairs.

Pleasant stay at Scharl am Maibaum

My wife and I stayed here for one night during the week before Christmas, just before doing a coach tour of Central Europe.

We did not expect such a warm and friendly reception from the owner, who even drove us to Erding to catch a train into Munich City (the train takes just over half an hour for this trip). The location is very quite and relaxing, and was perfect before a busy few days over Christmas. If we had not stayed at this pension, we would not have discovered the nearby town of Erding, which we thoroughly enjoyed, visiting the local Christmas market and a restaurant for lunch. If you're looking for quick access to- or the bright lights of the city of Munich, then this is not the place for you!

The room was very clean and an excellent selection was presented on the breakfast buffet.

I would recommend this for a good, honest, homely stay.

Countryside Pension worth a visit

I have tried 3 different pensions (boarding house) in the area around the airport in the last 4 weeks in the same price category and its a close call if you would ask me which one is the best.

Scharl am Maibaum is relatively easy to reach from the airport by rental car and it has plenty of parking right in fron of the hotel however, no elevator so be prepared to carry your luggage.

The single rooms are functional and clean and they provide for a good night of sleep, but forget to open the window because the hotel is located right in the approach area of the airport however, if the windows are closed no issues.

There is nice breakfast in a friendly breakfast room, serving eggs, cold cuts, cheese and coffee. Basically all you need to get you going for the day.

Fazit: Scharl am Maibaum was with 50.- Euro a night the cheapest of the Pensions I have visited in the last couple of weeks and it was good value for money and I would therefore consider going back the next time I have to stay over in Munich with an early flight in the morning.
