Most importantly and I cannot stress this enough, stephan, the owner is the single best hotel host I have ever met. He was permanently available, kind and chatty, provided ideas for daytrips and activities and was ready to help at any time.
The location is perfect for hiking and with the konus card you can easily visit nearby towns for free. There are not many cultural activities nearby but if you are only looking to see a few there are plenty of locations to go to with public transport. 
The rooms were big and had everything you need, had clean good beds and comfortable sofas to chill and play cards in the evening. 
The breakfast was plentiful and they seemed to never run out of anything no matter what we ate. Everything was fresh and really diverse. 

The prices are also incredibly reasonable which made our surprise even bigger when we found out what we got for it.

I can't thank the owner enough and will be lucky if I find any host doing a better job then he did in the future, I wish him all the best!

Everything we wanted and more 

We have been on July 2015, couple + 2 children (ages: 9,6)
The hotel is located in a perfect place - the view of the forest from the room is so nice,
easy to ride to any location in the Black Forest, to the Rhein Falls and to Alsace in France.
The hotel is small family hotel. Steven, the owner, and his wife are so friendly and welcoming.
The hotel does not honor the "Red" card, but if you compare it's moderate prices to the prices of the hotels that do honor the "Red" card, you will find that it worth it.

Great view, comfortable, very friendly and Great Location

I stayed in pension Thome with my family for 9 nights during September. 
It was a great and very recommended vacation to families traveling with children. 
The hospitality of Family Schreiner (Stephan and his wife) was excellent.
The rooms were very clean and comfortable. Breakfast is wealthy and nourishing.
Dinner in the pension Thome is a very unique and tasty experience.
Stephan was very helpful and happy in advising places to visit .
The WIFI is not accessible in the rooms on the low surface (just in the dining and upper rooms).  
Hinterzarten village is located near almost all “Schwarzwald” attractions.
