Le Lys de Castelnaud is in a perfect location...Beynac village & castle, Castelnaud castle, La Roque-Gageac, and absolutely stunning Domme with a fabulous non touristy market! All of this within minutes of Le Lys de Castelnaud. Also close are numerous caves and the beautiful Dordogne River for a cruise or hot air balloon rides.  It can be difficult to locate the road "turn off" as the signage is small. Parking is easy with a 50 m walk up a graded path to the house. The rooms are a bit small and quite dark...poor lighting. The breakfast was not plentiful, breads with homemade jam, yogurt, juice and coffee. Our French is poor and the host spoke very little English, therefore there was little interaction. There are 2 bedrooms suites with private bathrooms and 2 bedrooms that share a common bathroom.

Excellent location; however rooms were smallish and dark, and breakfast "lean".

The owners are the nicest, most lovely (and in love) people in the world. The location is pretty good if you are visiting by car (and you should be). Breakfast is ok, mostly bread, hot drink, juice and yogurt. Best part of breakfast is their amazing dogs and the owners company! Such great people... Amazing view of the castle from the small room window! The room is good, however, there is only air conditioning in the hallway, so you either have to leave the room door open, which i felt a bit uncomfortable with, of suffer the heat. To be picky, i also wished for better sheets, the ones we had were very much polyester-like, which contributed for the heat. I would definitely return if we were to go on another season, but on summer, for the price charged, i would prefer somewhere else with air conditioning.

Very nice little b&b!

Where to start???  The hosts of this wonderful B&B, Ysae and Jean Marc, were SO friendly, enthusiastic, and helpful.  They were a joy to meet.  They gave us suggestions and directions for restaurants and things to do, markets, gardens, castles -- we enjoyed every one of their suggestions.  The breakfast was really exceptional - everything was fresh, plentiful, and regional.  Our family group of four took two rooms, and we were still talking about how much fun we had with Ysae and Jean Marc many days later in our trip.

The rooms in this B&B are very clean, very comfortable, and quiet.  The view of the river valley stretching out before you is wonderful in the mornings as the mist lifts.  The decor is unique and fun, with dragons, armor, and more, all setting a medieval scene throughout the common areas and the rooms.

And the location is just about perfect -- there are so many fabulous sights nearby.  The Dordogne is a great region to visit, so picturesque and beautiful to see.  We left busy, noisy, almost frantic Bordeaux a day early, and were SO glad we could stay that extra night at Le Lys de Castelnaud.  What a relief to be in this beautiful, restful, but interesting valley with such great hosts and so much to do.

Wonderful Hosts!! A Great B & B in the heart of the Dordogne

just spend 4 nights with two friends . The best bit about this place is Natalie who greeted us with a glass of wine each and was so full of life and humour . Natalie was able to give good advice on where to visit nearby . The breakfasts are really good and I particular recommend the walnut bread and there is even homemade yogurt . There is a medieval theme to the house  with suits of armour about which is appropriate with all the castles near by . On the Saturday night    it was her husband's birthday and she had some family and friends around .We were invited and have to say we were made to feel very welcome by both Natalie and her guests   in a mixture of our French and their English . In short I enjoyed the experience immensely

Dordogne at its best

My husband and I stayed three nights at this beautiful bed and breakfast, which overlooks the Dordogne River and the Castelnaud castle. What a magnificent view, b & b and charming hostess. Nathalie went out of her way to suggest daily itineraries to maximize our time in this spectacular part of the world. Her English is terrific, which is a big plus in a part of France where not much English is spoken. She even translated part of our rental car manual into English and assured us that the warning light that came on while we were idling in the Surlat-sur-Caneda traffic was not important. 
Our room was beautiful, comfortable and looked directly out on tha gorgeous 1000 year old castle, which is dramatically illuminated at night. The entire b & b is like an extension of the castle. Nathalie wants her clients to love the Dordogne. She had visited local businesses and obtained discounts for her clients. Now, that is customer service!
