Me and my mum travelled to Fiji in January 2014 and just needed somewhere cheap to get some shut eye before going up North to Labasa. Initially upon arrival I was showed 3 rooms to choose from and opted for the ground floor closest to the reception. I must say the initial outlook was that this isn't what we wanted but when we looked at what we paid for it, and how long we are going to be there, it wasn't toooo bad. We overlooked the peeling paint work, the ants and musty smell of cigarettes, opened the windows before closing them and turning the A/C on which is a must for FIji!! The lady at the front organised for a cab to take us down to the road for some dinner.. There was adequate facilities to make some tea before having a nice shower to cool down and freshen up. The bathroom could do with a lock and something to obscure the window whilst showering. There were people walking on the road outside and I felt they could see me! Later did we realise the A/C was actually leaking water at a rapid rate and there was a power point directly below it. The attendant was thoroughly apologetic although we didn't want to be electrocuted in our sleep so had to turn it off and on at intervals throughout the night. Also there was some maintenance going on all  night, with sudden loud thuds and bangs scaring the daylights of us!!! Anyway we checked out in the morning and did say that if need be on the way back, we might come back!!

You get what you pay for..if you're not too fussy!

The plus: Friendly & considerate staff who organised taxis for me as well! Very close to airport. 
The flipside: Isolated location - needed to organise taxi to access shops & restaurants. 

Really would not recommend if you don't have your own vehicle - once there I was pretty much stranded in what seemed to be overgrown farmland, with no access to food within safe walking distance at night. And then to find a restaurant that served food and beer nearby (to non guests) was quite an ordeal. Fortunately I had a great (and very patient taxi driver). I only stayed one night and that was enough. Where I saved on accommodation costs, I had to spend much more on taxis and off site food outlets.

Affordable Airport Access

I have stayed her twice when traveling to the West for quick meetings in Nadi, and only needed a bed to sleep in without wasting money on an expensive room.  I have found the staff to be pleasant and helpful on both occasions.  There appear to be semi-permanent residents here, who on both occasions were loud and did not respond to management's request to calm down.  Management was highly apologetic for this.  As stated in another review, there is no hot water.  However, the rooms are large, clean, air conditioned, and the beds are comfortable.  If you are looking for an inexpensive room for the night, and are not worried about frills, then the Gate 8 will probably be right for you.

Complete run down place with run down rooms and facilities, poor management, lack of maintenance all over the property
Fridge not working, NO hot water, internet only by request and only in entrance area for a short period of time, No proper light installed in the rooms, after dark you sit almost in the dark even not possible to see the keyboard on your laptop, No chair or table for sitting, promised kitchenette without gas bottle (suddenly cost you surcharge), without cutlery, china ware or glasses, NO frying or cooking pan (just makes no sense to offer kitchenette facilities) all faucettes water tapes/handles in kitchenette and bath room were broken, flushing water for toilette not working properly sometimes just no new water, water leakage in ceiling and floor (extremely slippery tiles when wet – risk for serious injuries when falling down by wet tiles) shower hoses are broken, cabinets and drawers are broken and damaged, toilette rings are broken or loose, No bbq facilities outside as advertised, after a break in to the next door room during the night I had to seal off my sliding window with a log of wood to be safe for the night, no night guard, No safe place during the night even I was advised not to walk to the nearby restaurant during night time,  rooms are full with cockroaches, ants and other insects including mosquitos, after I informed the management that I will not stay any longer in this run down place I had to call my friends and even the police to ask for help to get my refund back including my deposit guarantee money-------and what do you guess??
I did not get all my money back correctly------but was satisfied to leave this run down place

I found this place on the internet and chose it because it is quite near to Nadi Airport and it was cheap. Because I was due to check in (after an international flight) at around 9pm and then depart early next morning for an onward domestic flight, I figured that a budget hotel would suffice. On arrival, while the room itself  was dingier than the web photos and not that clean (the online description did not warn that the shower is cold only), the room was large, had own ensuite and kitchenette. The sole staff member (receptionist  cleaner  etc.  all in one) was friendly and helpful. However, while I was asleep, all my luggage including my laptop and iphone was stolen.  I am surprised that the intruders did not wake me up. This ruined my holiday somewhat and due to having to deal with Police, making contact eith the travel insurance company and having to purchase new essentials (eg clothes), I had to spend an extra night in Nadi (needless to say, I stayed at a different, more reputable and secure hotel). There is NO security at Gate 8 - no security guard, no CCTV cameras in common areas, poorly  lit outside at night, and the outside sliding windows  (ground floor) do not lock. Recommendation: stay away from this place at all costs!!
