Cot Addis Hostel

The space was impeccably clean. The room I stayed in (1st one facing away from the bus station) was roomy and comfortable. The staff are very friendly and helpful - also there is free wifi and an affordable and convenient restaurant on the 2nd floor that will deliver food to the hostel. The common space is well equipped with a full kitchen and the living room has a great view of the comings and goings at the bus station across the road. Great value for money.

Cot Addis is a great place to stay! Whenever I had only the plan to stay for a few weeks, till I would have found an appartment, I stayed several month, when I was working in Ethiopia 2017. I´ve seen a lot of people come and go in the guesthouse from all over the world, some stayed for longer period like me, some enjoyed the guesthouse only for a few nights to plan their further trips. But nearly all had in common, that they felt a bit like coming home in cot. Mostly because the guesthouse was previously an appartement and still has this flair with the big living room and kitchen, but also because of the nice staff I think. Whenever it is not very central it is well connected, as it is directly at lamberet bus station and very close to the metro. Even so I fully recommend the guesthouse, I would advise you to check shortly before your arrival if your reservation is still valid, as this did not work for all guests. However this might have change meanwhile, as the manager was very motivated to improve this service lack and the guesthouse in general.

Another advantage is the restaurant directly under the guesthouse, thus you do not have to worry where to get food or water. Besides from fish dishes, no one ever got sick from the food, it is good and cheap.

My stay in COT Addis was great. It is reasonably priced and good value for money. The common area and kitchen are well equipped and the rooms are clean and comfortable. The staff is extremely helpful. I enjoyed them a lot. The showers were decent. There is a restaurant below that serves western and traditional foods and a bar on the basement as well. I would recommend COT Addis to anyone looking for an affordable place to stay in Addis.

Cot Addis had very helpful staff. I arrived late from the airport and left early in the morning. The person on duty was very courteous, and the rooms were very clean. Very basic--no water for drinking and no frills, but the person on duty assisted me with getting a cab and made sure I felt safe and comfortable.

Nice hostel in Addis

Bare bones--but safe and worth the price!

I booked Cot Addis online but never received any clear guidance on how to get there despite repeated requests. I arrived in Addis around 11 PM and showed the map I had saved from the website to the taxi driver who then took me to the area but then couldn’t locate the place as it is not at all marked. We kept roaming around for about half an hour and finally stopped at a random shop and used the shopkeeper’s phone to get directions. The hotel is located on the 3rd and 4th floor of a commercial building right in front of huge bus stand called “Lamberet”. Right in front of Lamberet there is 5 story building with a Pizzeria on the 3rd floor (which has a board) and NIB Bank on the ground floor which too is clearly marked. That’s your building. Once you are in front of it – you will see a small black gate. Go in and take the stairs and on the third floor you will see COT Addis. I arrived around midnight and everything was already closed. I had booked a single standard room which was on the top floor. The room is basic but comfortable enough. The toilets are separate however there was no water in there. Next morning when I got up there was still no water. I went to a nearyby market and bought bottled water to use for my personal needs and then went to explore the city. Upon my return I discovered that there was still no water! Apparently the supply to whole area was disconnected for some reason however I would expect a hostel/hotel to have some kind of alternative arrangements. That evening the power too went off and again, there was no alternative arrangement. The owner then came and apologized –waived off everyone’s rent for a day and hoped that everything will be back to normal the next day – fortunately all services were restored and next 3 days were comfortable. Cot Addis does not have shared rooms as of now (owner mentioned that he is planning to add more rooms after which it would more like a hostel). There are two categories of room – one on the first floor with a wardrobe inside and is closer to the tv lounge, kitchen and toilet and the ones on the top floor. There is an American styled kitchen right next to the TV lounge and some utensils and fridge but they weren’t enough if the place is full which it wasn’t during my stay. Overall the place is decent enough however the management looked weak. There is a bus stop right in front from where you can get local buses / mini vans to move around. Lots of small scale restaurants and shops are around as well from where you can get reasonably priced groceries. Wifi was there but works sporadically.

The electronic divasis not working most of the time.  The shourd is discastinc 

Don't go there 

We were more than half an hour waiting outside the hostel at 11.30 pm, banging at the door. No one answered the phone, and the recepcionist was sleeping. We were alone in the dark, with no electricity, in a not safe neighborhood, in danger. 

The day after, when we did the checkout, we had to pay for the previous night and they didn't pay off the terrible situation we lived. Apart from that, there was no electricity and water.
