The bus stop right outside the Hotel is very convenient, hotel staffs helpful in showing the ways. Bicycles available right outside as well. Breakfast is simple and good for Chinese, may not suit westerners. The only thing is they should enforce no smoking rule in the hotels strictly, and have more smiles on their faces, which is free, hahaha.

Convenient location, good value and quiet

Off the main drag,down a cul-de-sac, this hotel is away from the Xiamen hustle and bustle and quiet at night- and day.  Location is good- close to the ferry, and Zhongshan Road, and a good kick-off point for the Hakka tulou and other interesting places. Comfortable beds, firm but not hard are welcome after a busy day. The breakfast is a happy mix of Western and Chinese, with endless toast and 2 kinds of jam, cereal, coffee, yoghurt, and a wonderful array of vegetables, fruit, eggs, noodles, rice- and more. Would I stay there again? Yes, in a heartbeat. The clincher is the approachable, friendly staff. Although not all speak English, enough do, and I always felt they would do all they could to help with any request or solve any problem. When our taxi took a while to come, the young man at the front desk escorted us down to the road and hailed a cab for us. Nicely down, Reethi Rah.

Room was well appointed, clean and the A/C worked ! Cost is reasonable for city.
Location is good for nearby bars and restaurants, and being set back from the main road helps.
However having maintenance start drilling next door at 7.45am on a Saturday was not a great idea.
Breakfast was average.
Two words of warning. No international TV channels. Check out took 20 minutes without a queue, and it took 3 of them to do it !

No frills hotel at reasonable cost

All bathrooms, they tell me, are have see-through showers visible from the bedroom with venetian blinds controlled from the bedroom side. Go figure. A bit awkward, to say the least, when staying with friends.
But the breakfast is pretty amazing, with custom-made bowls of noodle and poached/fried egg, and a buffet spread of various congees, sausages, Chinese vegetables, and fried rice/noodles. Ah yes, hot milk to go with coffee or, get this, corn flakes!
Nobody at the desk speaks English or even tries to. Nor is the Internet over the Great Firewall of China; so forget about all things Google and Facebook--and a whole lot more. Stick to Chinese sites--Baidu, Youku, etc.--and the speed is like magic.

people smoke in the lounge ... Is that still allowed in China?

I went for a three hour walk around the neighbourhood, so I never got to the city! The hotel is clean. I was given a smoking room when I stated I wanted a non smoking one, so they changed it for me without question. 

There's nothing to do or look at in this hotel. There's not even a coffee shop! it's a bit out of the way. i would have preferred a hotel where I could qwalk out and people watch...here you get a side lane with no one around.  I'll probably not return to this hotel.

Average hotel

I booked for my guest. I booked online from Australia. She arrived to check in. They did not have the confirmation number, and no one would help. I called Expedia, who said, they would be too late updating the information, and that's why. I should not be allowed to book the hotel, if I can't get in. I want a refund, obviously, and when booking Chinese hotels from overseas, Expedia clients should beware of this problem.

They didn't check my guest in

I have lived and/or worked in Xiamen since 2004. Have stayed in maybe 15 hotels on the island and am accustomed to much better service/ value. I tried this one out because it is near my office in Xiamen, and had never stayed here before.

PROS:

Room is clean and organized
Unfortunately, that’s about it

CONS:

First English speaker I ran into was on the day I checked out. But I managed to get by somewhat on my broken Chinese.

Mass confusion at check-in - took over 30 minutes. Even though I had a room voucher and receipt, it was very difficult for anyone (4 people working on this) at the front desk to find any confirmation on their end, and they were very slow in contacting Agoda to confirm. They only picked up a phone after I picked up the phone to contact Agoda. Twenty minutes had already lapsed.

My original stay was for 6 days, but the hotel kept checking me out in their system every day. I would walk to my room after work, find out the key did not work, go back down to the lobby. It would then take 15 minutes to get a new key swiped, for what reason the delay I do not know. The staff kept talking about deposits, etc. etc…..I had paid in full with Agoda and had given deposit upon check-in. The entire process took 15-20 minutes - just to get back into my room after a day of work.

The cleaning staff will not honor the “do not disturb sign.” I went down for breakfast, and the cleaners went through my room - very quickly - with a “do not disturb” sign on the door. And they did not even bother making the bed, taking my laundry. I had one of my employees (I own a Xiamen business) call the hotel desk and ask why they did this, and the response was that the managers could not always control what the cleaning staff does. So advice to anyone staying here: lock up all valuables. The small safe may not be able to fit a computer inside - so bring a suitcase with a lock. I felt awkward leaving my room and going to breakfast or taking a run on Hu Wei Shan with my phones/computers/etc left inside.

There were children playing in the hallway at midnight. A couple fighting in the room next to mine very late on another night. The hotel does not get “quiet” until after midnight. The hotel staff does not seem concerned about this.

There was no help bussing luggage or anything like that.

The breakfast is very poor by Chinese standards - soggy vegetable dishes, cabbage. The only meat was some horrible sausage links. Even the fried eggs on a tray were cold.

Contrary to other reviewers in this comment section, the hotel is not near the city center, it is on the western edge of Xiamen Island near Marco Polo Hotel and the lake. I do not understand why several people would say it is near the city center.

After three days, I was able to get out of my original arrangement and get moved to another hotel. But it took over one full day to arrange this between Agoda and the hotel. It was a great inconvenience to my work schedule in Xiamen.

The hotel looks nice and could be very nice if better managed: the faults are not so much with the employees, but with the guidance/management, which is horrible.

Bin Bei Yi Hao and Marco Polo are better options nearby, if the price is right. There are several nice hotels toward the city center that offer better value.
