Nanjing Lakehome Hotels and Resorts

A relative booked us into this hotel during a family trip to China. We wouldn't have looked in this area otherwise, so we are glad he chose it. Located on Baijia Lake near the Shengtailu metro station, Hotel One is attached to the convention and exhibition center. It's only about a year old and is beautifully decorated. The rooms are modern and tasteful, with firm beds typical of China. Though it is a bit outside of the city, there is a pool and a great gym on site which my kids enjoyed. Breakfast was the buffet of Western and Chinese items typical of many hotels, though this one was more extensive, including local specialties like Nanjing duck and a greater array of prepared foods. We had two meals in the hotel which were excellently prepared. Lots of subtlety in the cooking except for a fiery dish of local crayfish. A soup served with the lightest fish ball ever (imagine the lightest matzah ball you ever had made from fish) was sublime. So was a soup made from the roast duck we had earlier in our meal. It put the soup served at a Beijing Duck restaurant in Beijing to shame. Service overall was excellent in the hotel from desk to waitstaff including a bellboy named Kobe Bryant. My only criticism, sadly true of many hotels in China, is the occasional prevalence of cigarette smoke. The lobby smelled of it from time to time. Thankfully this was not the case with our room which smelled fine. There is a shopping mall and a Starbucks nearby. Out of the way, but worth a visit.
