This guest house is really perfect... It is set right on the shore of Erhai Lake in a traditional Bai village, the surroundings are very beautiful and unspoilt by tourism. .... It is a ten minute taxi drive into the old city (15rmb and the owners can arrange it both ways, so you don't have to haggle with the taxi drivers in Dali. There is also a minibus that goes into the old city..(1.5rmb) The design of the guest house is really impressive... a harmonious blend of modern and traditional design. It is very spacious, clean and well kept. The young couple who run it are really great. They have a lovely gentle Golden Retriever called Luo Luo who should soon be having puppies. There is a small garden and the atmosphere is really one of a family home.They've cooked wonderful food for us and we've eaten with them every day. They also speak good English. I've been living in Yunnan for 2 years and have come to check out Dali as a possible place to live. Meeting the owners and their friends has been really inspiring. There seems to be a lot going on in Dali. At first glance I was put off by the heavy tourism, but staying here at the Hanz Cafe has really shown me a good side of life in Dali and also China. My mother also loved it here. It's the first time she's been to China and I really don't believe that we could have found a better place to stay.
