I stayed here for three nights with a friend and was disappointed. Despite the place being empty, they put me in a room next to where the staff live. It was so noisy at night because of this. Their children were screaming for hours at night. I had to wear ear plugs! And then in the morning (at 6am) they had no concern for the guests whatsoever. The walls are paper thin and they were shouting outside my room. 
The staff weren’t very friendly at all and very unhelpful. And speak no English whatsoever. 
We nearly missed our bus to Rio as the check out took so long. We needed to pay for a couple of bottles of water and they had no change. After faffing around for a long enough, one of the girls eventually went to get change. She was in no rush at all and, in the end, our taxi driver had to give me change so I could pay for the water. 
One reason we chose this place is because we’re backpacking South America and wanted to get our laundry done. They advertise they do this at an additional charge. When we asked about laundry they said no they don’t have it which was a little annoying. They said we could go into the historic center to get it done (20 mins walk). Great thanks for that. 
I would avoid this place.

Don’t waste your time & money

We had a non-refundable booking for 3 nights but wanted to leave one day early.
So: we first asked the owner / manager(?)  if it would be a problem to change our booking anyway. If not possible: fair enough, no hard feelings from our side, a deal is a deal.  But no !  it was not at all a problem to change our booking if we wanted to leave one day early.  Excellent,  thank you.   
On the morning that we had agreed to check out we asked for the revised bill. 
The owner/manager(?) was present, as we heard his voice behind closed door, but he did not show. The full amount for 3 nights was transferred from our account automatically.  We claimed a refund for one night via Booking.com and by mail.
The answer was refusal, followed by silence.  Hence the DISHONEST in the title.    

Now, let's discuss the pousada quality.  
We were the only guests. Only in the morning there were two ladies around for a short while to prepare breakfast, and on the first evening we saw the infamous owner/manager for maybe 10 minutes.  He gave us a front door key. Rest of the time the place was DESERTED and that was rather unpleasant.
There's a small pool (or rather a large outdoors bath tub) , and an upstairs terrace with road- and beach view. However: that is accessible exclusively for the tenants of the only luxury bed room.  
  
We chose this pousada for its location near Paraty, and next to the beach.  
Big mistake.  The location is DISTANT.  It is a too long  up- and downhill walk to Paraty. No taxi's passing by, no Ubers on call.
The waterfront then?  Shallow, smelly, muddy water and a DIRTY beach.  We walked it up and down,  and came across a lot of garbage and two dead rats.  Needless to say we did not swim there.       
Our overall advice will be clear......STAY AWAY , don't waste your time here. 
Go closer to Paraty and take a boat trip from there to the many bonita islands.

Dishonest.  Deserted.  Distant.  Dirty.

We traveled Brazil for six weeks in Feb/ March 2016, and stayed in 11 different hotels and Pousadas. Honestly, this was one of the best places that we stayed. Nothing fancy, but such a warm cozy atmosphere. Our room was clean and comfortable. The breakfasts were made with love, even though it is the typical brazilian breakfast that you find everywhere, the staff presented it so beautifully, it was freshly made and everyday there was some different surprise to break the monotony of the usual buffets you get everywhere else. The owner and his staff are caring, polite and go out of their way to make your stay a pleasant one. We would go back any day.

A little Jewel in Paraty

Stayed with 3 children in room 005. Big bed for a couple, a bunk bed and a single bed in a one big room with still plenty space left for a big bathroom. Very clean throughout, gorgeous swimming pool at the back and very welcoming hosts. Less than a minute walk to the Beach but still very quiet.Highly recommended.

Great location, comfy bed and a FANTASTIC breakfast

We had a great stay at this hotel! We came straight from a hostel and it was like heaven to experience the great service we got at Pousada Aquarium Beach. The rooms are so nice, clean and smelled fresh. Our first day we didn't make breakfast and slept over 2 hours. When we got up they took at all the breakfast for us so we could eat. So kind!!
Wifi is a little bit on and off, and the host doesn't speak english that well, but otherwise than that it was great. Notice that there lives 2 cats here.
