Since you are going to paradise, let's not ruin your experience with a place where you won't enjoy staying.
Hence, I carefully looked at all places, and since I could not afford to stay at Maravilhas ... how to choose?

Fortunately, I contacted Adriana as recommended by Lonely Planet. She knows the best places to stay, what to do, which tours to take. I told her what we were after, and she advised us to stay at Tereza's.

She does not get any money out of it, she is just helpful, supporting local economy and businesses that are respectful of the environment. Don't hesitate to contact her. She recommended and booked for us the boat ride around the island. 
Do the boat ride on your first day. This is great to get an idea of what the island looks like, and where you need to go.

About housing:
One important thing to know is that it is forbidden to build on or close to beaches on the island. This is the only place where you have pousadas 25m from the beach. All other places are more or less far, and either you walk, take the bus or rent a buggy.
People live there, because it used to be an Italian telegraph relay between South America and Europe at the beginning of the 20th century. Ask the owner to tell you stories about the place!
Hence, you'll be privileged to be able to spend 30 sec to go to the beach. Mind you, being on the beach with nowhere in sight at sunrise, swimming in the warm water while the first lights illuminate the island peak is just magic.
Then, you head back to get the great breakfast the ladies in charge set for you.
Being so close to the beach, and have it for yourself when everyone has left makes this place really special.
In addition, between the beach and the pousada, there is a bar, with live music. The bar closes after sunset, so you can have your caipirinha before dinner.
Lastly, on the location. To go the village, it is only a 10-15 min walk. This is where you go to be picked up for boat tours, diving etc. At night, take a flashlight, as some public lighting may not work.

At low tide, you can walk to the village along the beach. At the end of the beach you get on the rocks to reach the surfer's bar (good place for sunset drink (but you need to book the best places for watching). Carry on to the next beach, and then enter some woodland (follow the path) to reach the ruins of the fort in the village. There you can visit the free museum telling the history of the island (interesting). Climb up to reach the center.

Rooms:
There are two rooms with AC, TV, fridge. There is big room with a mezzanine (6 beddings) and a kitchen. The other room is insidethe house (where we stayed) for 2. Just a microwave, fridge, and kitchenware. There is a window on the corridor, i.e. no outside window. I knew about it beforehand, but it turned out not being an issue. We were in our room only to sleep. The rest of the time we were outside, on the porch, in the hammocks or on the beach.
Rooms were pristine everyday.

Internet. At the time of stay, it was not there yet. But the ladies plan to have it installed (when, I don't know), since it is requested by travelers. When you walk to the village you get free WiFi access.

Sun. It is a killer, don't forget sunblockers. Many pousadas provide beach umbrellas, but not Tereza's, yet (they are planning to buy some). They do provide beach towels though. Otherwise, you can rent umbrellas on most beaches for 10-20 R$.

The two ladies running the place are just adorable. They will do anything to help you and accommodate your wishes. They make you really feel at home.
Only issue, the cannot speak English. I can speak Spanish and a litlle bit of Portuguese, hence I managed. They were very patient, speaking slowly.
Note that English is not widespread on the island anyway, since the vast majority of tourists are Brazilians. You'll have similar problems elsewhere.

Food is expensive on the island (like everything else). But you can order food though the ladies from a nearby restaurant where locals eat. You say what you want with what they prepared (fish, meat), like rice, pasta, salad, beans, cheese and they deliver at the pousada. A dish is 20R$! and there is enough for 2 at night. Note that it is better to order in the morning if you want to get fish (catch of the day) as locals jump on it. You can store unfinished food in the fridge and warm it with the microwave.
There is mini-market in the village, where you can store all kind of food, drinks (and repellent !). They deliver to the pousada for free. Just say that it is for Tereza. Storing large quantities of water in the fridge is a good idea, in particular to roam the island.

Last thing. Bugs!
There are tiny flies that come out at sunrise and sunset (whole island). They seem innocuous. They are not. You don't feel the sting, but the scratching appears a couple of days later. Be sure to use repellent at such times.

In summary, the location, the kindness of the ladies, the simplicity of the place contributed greatly to a fantastic experience.

My best recommendation

My finance, our 13 month old daughter and I just had the delightful pleasure of staying 7 nights here.  With most guesthouses being located quite some distance from the beach, the location of Casa da Tereza is superb with about 100 steps from the waters edge. The place is run by a lovely local family that lives next door which provided such a warm and superb services during our stay. Their kids played with our daughter and our host helped us with everything from Buggy rental to local island tips. Rooms are basic but good compared to the  standard on the island and most importantly clean and well maintained. 

Basic Portuguese skills or phrasebook is recommended as no English is spoken. 

Our best recommendation of this wonderful little gem. Hoping to be back soon.
