This place is walkable up the hill from the city centre (where the bus from the airport dropped us off). I don't know why it is called 'garden'. It has a very basic, plastic covered mattress (good, no bed bugs) and very basic room but given the price good value. The bathroom was also very basic but delivered what they are supposed to do. The staff were helpful, reliably booking taxis for 6 a.m.!  and the communal area nice enough. Breakfast was very acceptable although the room where you ate was a but utilitarian  - the whole place is but for the price I don't regret booking it. There are good hamburger places just up the hill (see Lonely Planet) and down in the centre too.

An OK place if you want to be in the centre of Curitiba

Another excellent recommendation from lonely planet. This small hotel offers great value for money. Location is great in walking distance to the Centre of town with great restaurants and nightlife just a block away. The hotel is nothing flash bit is clean and comfortable.

Great value

While backpacking through brazil we used the booking.com website to book a quadruple room in this hotel. The price stated it would be $180BR. We arrived the next night to find that our booking had not gone through due to a fault on the hotel system. The man at reception was pleasant but had no English and so for over an hour we used google translate to communicate. I showed him my email as proof of booking and the price I was told I would pay and yet he suggested we would have to pay an extra 10% for the booking site and ANOTHER 10% for a Brazilian "levy" so $219 in total. We explained it should be $180 but agreed to pay 10% extra but this wasn't good enough. The man contacted booking.com and after speaking in Portuguese to them he said they both agreed we would pay 2 seperate 10% which would mean $219 total. We finally agreed as it was late and dark out. Only to receive an email from booking.com the next day saying that they agreed with the receptionist we pay $198!! As backpackers every cent costs so we were disgusted to find we had been completely CHEATED BY THE HOTEL ! 
to top it all off...the wifi is rubbish! 

Cheated by the hotel

The staff do not speak (even a very basic level of) English. So that created difficulties to begin with. The reception area probably looked great 30 years ago, but it has become neglected and tired.

The hotel has quite a negative feel to it. The room was small and basic. We had to ask for it to be cleaned each day. There were no amenities in the hotel itself. The breakfast was poor, and the eating area was sterile.

On the plus side, it was not expensive and the location is ok. And...not sure if there are better places to stay at in Curitiba for the price.

Average at Best

Spent here 3 nights on my backpacking trip across Brazil. The hotel is in an excellent location. Stop of Airport Shuttle Bus just 100m around the corner. Main pedestrian street, 24 hours shopping street and old town only 5 minutes away. The local train station (Serra Verde Express) can be reached best by taxi for 10 R$ (alternatively, it's a 25 minute walk). Rooms are pretty standard, but clean and come with TV. The Breakfast buffet is fair considering the room rates. As Curitiba lacks a good hostel scene, this hotel may be a reasonable option for the budget-minded who still wants some comfort.
