We booked this gasthaus based on rooms here, and specifically the top level two room suite. They did not lie as the views were outstanding and the rooms cozy. This very much remidned me of my grandmother's house further east. It was also nice to get away from the overcrowded center-it was quiet up the hill. As mentioned elsewhere it's a hike up the hill- one should be mobile. They also had a neat selection of things to read, tea kettle, etc...

Outstanding views

I've heard this place may no longer be offering rooms regularly, but they were open for us in September 2017, and glad we found them.  The price was very reasonable, and the views from the window and from the front garden were unreal.  

It's high up in town which is good for the views, but is a bit of a walk, especially if you had much luggage.  And be sure you get good directions - we ended up going up behind the place on arrival, meaning we climbed about 10 flights of stairs unnecessarily.

Incredible Views

We absolutely loved our stay at Haus Lenz in Hallstatt. Frau Lenz was very friendly and helpful, spoke excellent English and provided us with a great breakfast every morning. The view from our bedroom was spectacular. We had a 360 degree panorama view looking over the old town, the Lahn area, lake and mountains.our beds were very comfortable and we had our own bathroom, tea and coffee making facilities and fridge. The price was excellent as well. The only drawback was the steep walk uphill, including a large number of steps, which was rather strenuous carrying luggage.

Great value accommodation with amazing views in Hallstatt

We stayed 2 nights and it was great. The b&b is a little hike to get to, but the views from our window were amazing. Every morning we woke up we couldnt believe the view. The location for the b&b were close to the main ferry and the salt mines. It was a very nice stay and the owner even packed us a to go breakfast since we had an early train out.

Wonderful stay for 2 nights

We had a lovely time in Halstatt-it is a beautiful little town. It's a steep walk up, but the view is worth it. Frau Lenz was helpful and our room was very neat. My only complaint was that we were staying in a non smoking room, and Europe is a completely different smoking culture than I am used to in the US, but the owners sit outside to smoke and the smoke drifts up and in the open windows of the bedroom. We weren't there much so it wasn't a huge deal-but it did bother me while I was trying to enjoy the space. Make sure to take the small electric boats out-BEST use of your money!

With all the great reviews on Trip Advisor, i think we had the wrong expectations for Haus Lenz.
Firstly, we asked for a private room with private bathroon but were given a room with the bathroom across the room - still only for us, but with the owner Helga, being able to walk through the passage whenever - not my idea of a private bathroom. We then realised that there was a room upstairs (yes more stairs) with a private bathroom and asked to be moved to this room. 
ALL the stairs - watch the you tube video. This place is great if you are staying in Hallstatt for a weekend trip in Europe, but as South Africans on a month long vacation in Europe, all those stairs were traumatic and really left a sour taste by the end of them. 
The place is clean and decent, but it is like going to stay with friends for the weekend - all the owners things are everywhere - even the cupboards, unlike other bed and breakfasts we stayed in where the lodgers and the owners were separate. The breakfast was extremely simple. 
The view is amazing, but you can walk up yourself (without luggage) and admire the view and return to the bottom. remember it will take you about 15 minutes to see the whole of Hallstatt.

We left wishing we had rather booked into the Hotels right near the ferry at the bottom.
