Our room was on the second floor with a nice patio overlooking a public square at the end of the free trolley line.  It's an easy walk to at least 7 very good restaurants and coffee shops.  The free trolley stops right across the street and runs 6 days per week.  The trolley provides easy access to shopping and the cruise port.   Buses and taxis are also available. 

Our room was large, cool and comfortable with a microwave, refrigerator and tv.  There are several security features for the rooms but the area is safe and well traveled by locals.  The patio is a wonderful place to sit in the evenings or mornings and sip a drink or coffee while watching trolleys and people walking by.  The cool trade winds blow most of the time and make the patio very pleasant.  There is a free concert every Friday night right across the street and all the locals attend.  

The manager of the unit, Jean was amazing.  He was the friendliest most helpful I have ever experienced.  When I experienced problems with a local scuba shop Jean contacted a relative who was able to provide 2 wonderful dives I never would have experienced any other way.  We were also provided with a personal tour of the island that was wonderful.

i have just returned from Aruba and i must say i had an amazing time. i did not stay where the high rise hotels were but in the downtown area. On vacation i generally do not like to stay in the tourist areas because you really do not get a proper feel of the community. saying that, Rutena suites is about 10 minutes on the Arubus to the high rise areas. I stayed in room 2 not sure what the lay out of the other rooms are like but i loved my room. it was clean, adequate size, i had a fridge, microwave and utensils if i needed. i also had a balcony and one night during my stay there was live music so i got to sit on my balcony with a glass of wine and chill to the music. The tram stop was also right outside my window. The manager was very reachable and was always willing to him. i am glad that i listened to his advice and rented a car for 2 days just so that i could do all the tourist stuff in that time which i did manage to achieve. i would recommend this spot to anyone looking for comfortable, affordable and clean lodgings. i also walked down the street at night time as a solo traveller and did not feel threatened in anyway. There is a beach within walking distance ( Surfside beach) and some shopping areas all nearby.

I enjoyed my stay here. The rooms are clean and spacious. There is a small kitchen area. Great restaurants in walking distance. The beach and downtown area is in walking distance. The trolley stops right across the street. There's bars within walking distance. The downside is the hot water doesn't work well. It's more like luke warm. Everything else was wonderful.

The service in this apartment was fantastic. The manager went out of his way to give us advice on sights to see, how to get there and spent 3 to 4 hours of his own time looking for our mentally ill daughter that ran away from our apartment.  He found her in Nord.  We stayed in apartment #4.  It has been recently remodeled, had a lot of space with two queen beds in the bedroom, a kitchen area and a living room area.  The apartment was very clean.  It is located at the end of the main street trolley which goes all the way down to the ocean.  You can ride it for free and get on and off at any of the main street shops and restaurants. The bus station is within walking distance from the apartment.  If you rent a car, the apartment is somewhat hard to get to because of all the one way streets accessing it.  My advise is to call the manager and have him come and get you from the airport or tourist information both along the main beach highway.  It is only about 5 to 10 minutes away from the apartment.    Once he guides you to the apartment, He will give you maps on how to get back to it.

If you're a couple looking to avoid the extreme touristy areas of Aruba, stay here, rent a car and explore the island on your own. We had a great, relaxing experience here and avoided the crowds. I also recommend going to the local beaches and restaurants in addition to the really touristy areas. The very touristy beaches have things to offer too, but it's nice to mix it up. John is super friendly and will help you rent a car and with any recommendations you need. It's also more affordable than most places on the island. You'll have to clean up after yourself as there's no housekeeping, but that didn't bother us at all. Enjoy your trip!
