Fantastic
345 reviewsSan Carlos and La Vaca Tranquila are an absolute refuge of peace, tranquility, and authenticity on the edges of slightly dumpy Cafayate. The property owners live on site, which means the maintenance and feel of the entire site is top notch. The surrounding areas make you feel like you're on a working farm, and the town of San Carlos is possibly the most authentic and charming town we came across in our long journey across the Northwest of Argentina. Breakfast excellent, and the pool a real treat. San Carlos lacks one thing: a passable restaurant. If someone opened a good restaurant in San Carlos, and you didn't have to take the unpredictable Ruta 40 to Cafayate for dinner every night, this place would be a dream. Either self-cater if you stay here (there are facilities to do so) or make sure you have a designated driver for the 30-min trip back. Would be great if the property could arrange a shared taxi service to and from the property at dinnertime (say, leaving at 8:30pm, returning at 11pm) that guests could join.
