For the money this was great value and we were very happy to see the room was not in the pub itself but a separate block of rooms at the back so it was very quiet. A good supply of tea/coffee/sugar and biscuits replenished each day. Comfortable beds, TV and the shower was fantastic!! My only slight niggle was the bit of an odour in the room which I don't think was the air freshener. It wasn't unpleasant but quite noticeable when you entered the room. If not for that I would give 5/5 but I'd definitely stay again if required.  
There was plenty of free parking nearby and the hotel was in the heart of Royal Wootton Bassett.

Great Value and Great Shower!

Right in the center of everything!  We were able to walk everywhere.  The bus and train station were a reasonable distance and easy to navigate luggage.  Harrogate is a beautiful city, The Crown is a charming and comfortable hotel, and they have such wonderful staff!

Let me first start by saying the staff at this "hotel" are great, very welcoming and did their best with what they have.
Firstly, the hall ways were not lit, even the staff seemed to struggle with where the light switches were.
The bathroom was the only room with heating, the bedroom was ice cold and no amount of fiddling with the radiator helped.
The bed looked reasonable but it was clearly two singles that needed throwing away, it's amazing how a good night sleep can save a hotel but you won't get one here.
The place is dated and given that it has a similar price to some very reasonable places (The angel opposite would be a great start) but even the holiday inn express etc have more redeeming features and I love a good period place but this place needs some serious investment to make it habitable.

Oh dear, you can see why there's a no refund policy

the manager has replied to say that he wont be providing a refund after we didnt stay at the hotel, a friend of ours gave up his room in the stunning Angel over the road, the manager said that we should have said something.

If i need to say something about the headboard, this is where the problem lies, I get the impression he has dealt with many complaints in the same way to avoid paying refunds.

left it that he can keep the money, maybe invest in some air fresheners and cleaning products.

We selected this little hotel because of it's perfect location (~30 minutes coach ride to Swindon bus & train stations using the line 55) and cheap price.

- The shower was not very easy to operate at least for us non-UK residents
- The same goes with the lock of the room door, very hard to lock from the outside
- The room didn't smell very good and the toilet smelled of sewer
- Spiders in the room and shower, not good for arachnophobes
- A bit noisy because of the pub and the tables right outside of the room windows
- Wifi not working in the room
- No fridge in the room to keep the drinks / water cool

Cute and cheap little hotel with great location

I booked the CROWN sight unseen and was delighted with both my ensuite twin bed room and the hospitality of the owners. Jackie gave me help finding shops in the High St and pointed me to a great place for b'fast. 
She even helped me get out into the traffic. Couldn't have asked for more.
Wi Fi was easy to access and worked well.Location is great too.

Terrific stay

Despite it being a warm day at the end of July, the room was freezing. No soap or toothpaste in the bathroom. A cheap bubble bath was on the side of the bath, either there for people staying to use or left there by someone else. Service was ok. Won't stay again.
