This is the worst pub I have been to in years. The landlord was inhospitable and impolite. We noticed that this place is up for sale. Hopefully, it sells quickly and they find someone who is willing to operate a pub with a better attitude. With only two pubs in Horton, it's disappointing that this was not a pleasant experience.

Not the best!

Fancied a pint after Pen Y Ghent. Didn't even make it through the front door without being awkwardly blocked by the proprietor who sent us away for having our dog with us. Had a lovely pint at the Station Inn (by Ribblehead) instead. Wonder why The Crown is for sale? Can't be the wonderfully polite attitude of it's staff can it?

No dogs allowed.

Wasn’t the best of stays. 
When checking in we didn’t feel very welcomed, 
No signal and no WiFi. 
I did ask if there was WiFi to be bluntly told.. NO! 
Evening meal was lovely altho very basic breakfast. 

Room was cold when we arrived we went to bed shivering. Bed was comfy altho cold. We was told  had we asked we would have been given a heater as the heating isn’t on 24/7.
It doesn’t need to be on 24/7 but on longer than 1 hour is needed. 
Mould on the inner wardrobe was an absolute shock. And was just told this  is nothing they can’t do about it as it’s an old building so they will now clean it weekly. 
Floor uneven, again told it’s because it’s an old building and can’t do anything. About it. 
Very dated room. 
Certainly not worth £120 a night!

The most miserable barman in the world
 Just walked whernside and called in for a quick pint. Never seen someone running a social environment so miserable. People asking about food, got 1 word answers
 If ya haven't got social skills DO NOT run a pub. Give this place a wide berth as you'll only end up coming out miserable!

We were passing by on our way home to Halifax and decided to call in to the Golden Lion to see if this pub had changed its ways and attitude in the last couple of years. (Just read the shocking number of terrible reviews it’s received- no wonder it’s at the bottom of the village ranking on Trip Advisor). The old unwelcoming posters were still on display at the entrance so nothing new there. We went into the bar only to be met by an atmosphere akin to a morgue. Realising that nothing had changed we gladly escaped to a proper pub at the other end of the village without even bothering to sample their wares. Yes, do as we did and AVOID AT ALL COSTS…….YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED !

THE WORST PUB ON THE PLANET

Stopped in after completing the 3 peaks challenge, the lady behind the bar was lovely. The miserable barman on the other had. Dozens of people coming in after a hard days walking and he couldn’t have been more unfriendly if he tried. We left after one drink as it was obvious he didn’t want us there.

The rudest owners. Simple as. After walking, we thought to make a pit stop for a nice refreshing beer. 

It’s clear they don’t like having customers. No wonder it’s up for sale. 

Avoid. Avoid. Avoid.

THE WORST PUB EVER

Did the Three Peaks on the 26th July and stopped here on the 26th and 27th. 
Upon turning up The Landlord Freddy was very friendly polite and Courteous to us. He couldn’t do enough to help us. We had Tea that evening and both had Lasagne, Salad and chips… the portions were massive and my wif struggled to eat hers… we then retired to bed before doing the Three peaks  the following day and due to an early start, we were given a breakfast pot that was a nice touch … the beds were exceptionally comfortable and we had a good nights sleep. 
We started at 6:30 next morning and due to weather we finished and got back to the pub about 8:30 that evening… they normally stop serving food @ about 8:00, however Freddy and Sandra watched out for us and made an exception going out of their way to assist and feeding us… this food was also very nice..
We yet again had an early night to get up for a nice hot bath (water red hot) which was very welcoming after 24 1/2 miles   
We then had our continental breakfast this morning (Friday ) which was more than adequate … prior to leaving. 
All in all a wonderful experience with excellent and thoughtful hosts at a reasonable  price   
I would certainly recommend this Hotel to anyone and return back again.

Excellent Hists

As the only place open on a Wednesday we came here to eat dinner after spending a day hiking a section of the Pennine Way.

What we loved:
- the pub opened at 5pm and you could order food from 6pm- 8pm
- there was plenty of seating inside and outside (most people sat outside as it was a sunny day)
- they had clean toilets with plenty of soap and hand towels
- the beer was tasty and you could pay by card
- the food was tasty and fresh and they had a huge range of delicious sounding options on the menu
- there was clear signage throughout the pub
- the friendly patrons within the pub that we spoke to

Things to be aware of:
- there are a lot of signs handwritten/typed throughout the pub telling you the rules of the establishment- it can feel a little bit daunting
- it is clear that some hikers/patrons have not been particularly kind/respectful which has led to a rather uncomfortable and awkward feeling within the pub- as some reviewers have written previously you feel like you're an inconvenience when ordering drinks/food
- dogs are allowed outside not inside, there are signs provided about this
- there were bathmats and plastic bags put on the chairs as they were prepared for walkers arriving wet- completely understandable


An awkward experience but we thoroughly enjoyed the food

Visited The Crown last night for our evening meal whilst staying in Horton in Ribblesdale .Having read several reviews we weren't sure what to expect. So glad we took a leap of faith ..the food was excellent, wholesome home cooking and plentiful, the staff were very friendly, the barman had a great sense of humour and was eager to please. A fabulous country pub with a lovely atmosphere. We had a great night and we weren't alone, the pub was packed. Book if you don't want to be disappointed. Thank you to all at The Crown!!
