Me and my partner had the whole building to ourselves this weekend and we loved it!
We felt like the king and queen of Selkirk in this grand old house and we had the biggest apartment 'Lindean' at a reasonable price! what an absolute bargain.
I agree with what some people have said previously about the site; it is a bit run down and it needs a lot of tlc/repairs/decoration. After talking to the caretaker there, the landlord is absent and not contactable. I don't know if he has lost interest or what but Sally does the best she can to keep the place going, and in as good an order as she can manage. 
We had a massive living room and bedroom, and a good size kitchen and bathroom. The water was hot, the apartment well stocked with everything you need for self catering. There was a tv, stereo and internet access. The bed was comfortable and clean.
I would recommend for people wanting to stay on a budget maybe with family and friends. The area itself is beautiful and lots of interesting places to visit, such as castles, museums, stately homes, mill shops and such. The people in this area are very welcoming too.

Lovely building and convenient location on a budget.

Just returned back home from our 8 hour round trip to Whitmuir Hall, should of stayed for 4 nights but could only stay for an hour as we were disgusted with the state that the apartment was in. Foul musky, damp smelling, cobwebs everywhere, mould on the windows and the outside patio area was a disgrace and a health hazard!!
There is no way we could of stayed for even one night let alone four!! Even the Hall itself looked in a shocking state of disrepair and very tired and dated. The whole site needs a huge amount of money spending on it to bring it back into the 21st Century or better still pulling down and rebuilding..
My advice to anybody planning on going here is to not bother, it’s not safe and you will be very disappointed

Unclean, unkept, musty damp smelling out dated and tired building- Would not recommend.

I have visited Whitmuir Hall on a number of occasions over the last 15 years and it is a beautiful location. Accommodation is comfortable and functional, whether it's in the main Manor house, cottages or coach houses. However over the years it has become a little tired and some areas run down, which is real shame, as it has so much potential to be something really special. 
It is great base to explore the local area and further afield.

Peace and quiet stopover

I’ve never seen a place run in this manner before, there isn’t any care or attention put into any part of this “hotel”. 
Perhaps it’s just my opinion, but I’d say that the very least you can hope for in a hospitality run business, is a smiling face to welcome you at the door? Well, it’s too much to ask for here... instead you’re welcomed by a note sticky taped to the door telling you where to go. It’s just run as an afterthought, you can tell no one cares about customer care, there wasn’t even a single member of staff on site! How can you possibly expect to run a business that way?? So basically, if there’s any issues upon arriving you’re on your own as we found out! 
Our cottage was left open (clearly aren’t bothered about potential theft) as we entered you’re met with a fowl stagnant, damp smell, which fits the furnishings to a t. I’d be surprised if any item of furniture was younger than 30 years old, literally! Someone has clearly been watching too many episodes of bargain hunt as there’s a poor arrangement of odd objects including a bowl filled with dirt, just dirt! 
No access to the games room either, given the hut had a bees nest right outside we didn’t look to hard I’ll admit! Was obviously deserted anyway. 
Hoping things would improved we ventured into our “enclosed patio with BBQ” in reality it was a small slabbed area, overrun with weeds and junk, also there was no BBQ so the £80 shop on the way there for food was well worth it! I wish I could attach the photos but apparently they’re too large! 
I decided I really wasn’t comfortable staying there with our baby daughter, I really wouldn’t have put any faith in the safety of the electrics given the disrepair of the place (it needs 10’s of thousands to bring it up to date) And that’s a priority for me! 
But what can you do? Go speak to someone? Sorry, no member of staff on site, I looked. And asked the only other 2 guests we saw in the entire place, who said there rarely was anyone there. So we left. And they kept OUR money, £350 odd incase anyone was wondering. No explanation was given, no excuse, no care. They could keep it so they did just that. As I small business owner myself I endeavour to be as fair as possible, just a shame some people have only money as their priority. Personally I’d rather be skint and keep my morals intact! But that’s a my preference... 
Only thing we were offered was £100 from the site we booked though (holidaycottages.com) as a goodwill gesture. Well that’s just great, you fasley advertise and I fit the bill, just great! Cheers. 
Certainly won’t be using you again. 
Although our visit was disastrous to say the least, I decided to wait a few months, 3 to be precise. I don’t believe in making trip advisor posts in the heat of the moment, and I’m not bitter anymore. I simply don’t want anyone to have to experience the disappointment we did. As a young family we rarely get time away and ended up paying twice, and we had to fit the bill for alternative accommodation. Something we really could have done without if I’m honest!

So bad we didn’t stay even one night

Rundown and sad and probably dangerous. Has the air of a site long passed it's best. Could only stay 2 night's of the 4 booked. Children's playpark horrendous broken and dangerous equipment. Patio area very poor. Lovely view of the septic tank. Black beetles in the rooms. Too much to mention.

Cheap but not chearfull

apartments are really clean , yes its an old building and your going to get the odd cobweb here and there but dont know what some people expect rooms are spotless. staff are available at the end of a phone 24/7 if needed but your left to enjoy your holiday as it should be. the staff absolutley make this place they go above and beyond to make your stay pleasurable , cant do enough for you, selkirks a five minute ride away plenty of shops etc. kids loved the games room spent all night in there , overall this is a great place to stay no complaints from us

first time here dosent deserve some of the awful reviews it has

Photos looked brill and so did the price for a week self catering 3 person apartment.  Electric is expensive and as weather was cold had to use the extra heating which added up to over £70 for the week.  Very disappointed with cleanliness.  Dead bugs, dust and cobwebs in windowsing and skirting.   Bed was very uncomfortable with very cheap mattress so don't look at  4 posted bed.  Didn't like idea of stripping beds before leaving and leaving in hall. It's up to you to ensure its cleaned as you will be charged for a cleaner. Although you are expected to arrive at four we had our room instruction left pinned to main door and never saw anyone all week.   Pool area wasn't open although the  games room was but both pool cues were broken.  Nothing to indicate you where in Scotland and could have had some tartan or pictures of the Tweed and historical places nearby.  Main hall has old mismatch furniture and looked old and tired.  The whole place looks sad and unloved and needs a big clean.  Would I stay again, I very much doubt it.  It's in a beautiful location and was so upset with list of instructions and the dirtiness.  The windows have years of grim, dirt, bugs and cobwebs and need wash on outside.  This is a place that needs a revamp before going again.

Decore nice cleanliness poor

Great golf in easy travelling but the accommodation was awful.... Even though we stayed at the end of August, the nights were cold. Not a problem in this day and age, but it is in a dilapidated single glazed old building that needs many, many thousands spent on it to make it even half decent. Windows that wouldn't close, making the rooms very cold at night, windows that wouldn't open, so you can't get out in an emergency and much, much more. No light bulb in our bedroom but could not get anyone on the phone to pass on complaints of which there were several; non were addressed by the time we left. One of our 3 flats had a shower that didn't work at all and the occupants had to shower at whatever golf club we visited each day. A self catering unit that expects you to take meter readings when you arrive, no one to meet you, and the same when you leave, no one to see you out; a hefty bill for the weeks electric [£23 for our flat alone, £60+ overall] and we were out from 8 am until 8 pm every day!!! The decor is appalling, with wall paper peeling off etc etc. One good selling point is the pool -  shame we never got to use it. Only open from mid morning to mid afternoon. Being a self catering unit, most would use it as a base and be out most of the day as we were, therefore the pool is unusable. I heard several other guests complaining about the lack of staff, poor quality of the building/furniture etc and the lack of facilities actually available in general. To top it all, you are left with instructions on how to clean your [not cheap] flat and if you didn't they would do it at £7 per hour. The whole place is a shambles. Do not under any circumstances waste your money here. There are far better places within easy reach for a similar price and you won't have to take meter readings, freeze to death [you won't do this if you pay a fortune for the heating to be on - we didn't us it], strip your beds, fold the sheets and place on the landing, hoover, wipe through, put your rubbish out etc etc etc - do you get the gist?............... awful, awful, awful, AVOID-AVOID-AVOID!

We booked through Cottages4U who we have used many times before and expected much better from them!
