This was our first guided walking break and we didn’t really know what to expect. 
We arrived in the early evening, booked in swiftly and settled in to our room.
The hotel is a lusted building and very well maintained. The room was clean, spacious and very comfortable.
The evening meal and packed lunches were booked in advance and dinner was served in one sitting at 7:15pm with other guests (approx 30 HF Holiday guests). The food was fresh, well prepared and presented by the most helpful waiting staff. We were also attended by the bar staff throughout our stay who were also very helpful and friendly, remembering our preferences every time : )

We all had a choice of 3walks 1=easy up to 3=hard, the leaders swapped groups so we experienced walks with them all. 

Our walks were at a comfortable pace, rain was predicted but stayed dry although some of the trails were quite slippery, we benefited from the guides knowing the terrain and leading us the best way, it all added to the end of the day shared stories.

Having the leaders at hand throughout the holiday made our visit more memorable, they were knowledgeable of the local history and constantly shared snippets of information that wouldn’t be available without having fully researched the area before leaving home.
On our last night we had a fab game of ‘killer skittles’ which made my whole visit. We were sorry to leave as there is a quiz night (competition that spans all HF holidays across the Uk)scheduled for Wednesday evening.

On return from our days out we were able to clean up in the courtyard and leave our wet kit/cleaned boots in the boot room. 

We enjoyed our stay so much, we each signed up with a membership and are planning another stay for a week in July…. need a bit of time to get some decent boots broken in. 

The other guests were so welcoming and friendly, it was a real treat spending time with them. 

Would recommend this experience, now I know how my retirement is going to play out : )

HF Holiday #1

It was my first experience of HF Holidays and a fantastic place to choose for it. The hotel and especially all the staff from Sue the manager to bar and restaurant staff were pleasant and friendly. All the food was home cooked and served hot and plentiful. Rooms clean and provide toiletries for personal use. A boot room for walkers needs is just outside. Guided tours around the Yorkshire and Whitby area also included in the price. Definitely a place to visit if your in the Whitby area.

Best in Whitby

We just got back from a short break here. 
It is set up as part of a group providing guided walking holidays, but we chose a self guided option and pleased ourselves where and when we went.
The accommodation was perfect for us and the picnic packs were beyond our expectations. A comfortable room, a good breakfast and a substantial evening meal were part of the deal, but for us the main positive feature was the welcoming and helpful staff.

Short break - walks optional

Just brilliant! Arrived for a 4 night HF holiday (guided walking). Lovely room. Polite and very helpful staff. Great walks and good leaders. Food excellent and plenty of it. Barman remembered visitors names and room numbers which is impressive. Would thoroughly recommend.

HF holiday at Larpool excedes expectations

We stayed at the Larpool Hall during our hiking vacation with HF Holidays.
Beautifully located, nice clean rooms, excellent breakfast and dinner, Friendly team.
Beautiful vacation.
Be aware - there is no lift at the hotel. You'll have to assist yourself.

Excellent stay

Very old house with an assortment of different sized bedrooms in different areas around the building.
 
Some of the rooms are very dark some have very creaky floorboards and the shower in my room has been extremely challenging which could be due to the water shortage causing low pressure.

Rooms still aren’t being serviced.

Some areas could do with a bit of a makeover and there is quite a bit of flaky paint around the outside windows and doors.

Lovely well kept garden and the food had all been very tasty.

Fairly easy down hill walk into Whitby with a few options of different routes.
 
Plenty of parking at the front of the house.

Really good Bridge course run by Richard. He is an excellent tutor and a really nice man. HF up to its usual standard. Fulsome breakfasts, tasty lunchtime sandwich bags and enjoyable dinners. Worth paying for best rooms for views, space and extra comforts.

On arrival, the room had not been fitted out as a twin as we had asked but this was quickly rectified.
It was a quiet, spacious, comfortable room with a lovely view.  The lighting was dim though - there was no central light.  The free wifi worked well.
The hot water took about five minutes to warm up and the shower water flow was poor.  It almost stopped completely on one occasion.  One shower rail was broken but had a temporary repair.
We felt the food was a bit inconsistent. The fish dishes were generally excellent.  Meat dishes were generally good but several people had burnt garlic bread or Yorkshire puddings. The breakfasts were very good but again the bacon could on occasion be dry and hard.
One dinner I remember having  was prawn cocktail, roast beef and sticky toffee pudding.
The dinners are now plated up with vegetables - a huge improvement over the serve yourself system as it makes sure the food is hot.
We weren't too impressed by the packed lunches.  Sandwich orders were sometimes done wrongly and it was one of the few flapjacks we didn't like. Neither did we want sweets or marshmallows in the nuts & raisins!

A very enjoyable week's holiday

Good hotel. Double room was good. with plenty of space. Clean and comfortable. 
Food good you have to pre book.
Table design has been changed since last visit eliminating some of the character of the dinning room.
Packed lunch features unlimited choice. Sandwich is pre-ordered night before.
Negative is drinks price and no real ale. Can end up with 2 singles if you do not make it clear you want a double.

Up to Holiday fellowship standards

The house is about 1 mile outside Whitby, with lovely views across the countryside. Good walking opportunity nearby including a old railway line. Our room was large and comfortable, with view over roof if hotel. No lift. Food was excellent and staff welcoming.
