Walking the North Cornwall trail with my friend and one of the friendliest groups of people I have ever met turned out to be the happiest  holiday I have had in many a year. The leaders , the food, the manager and staff were exemplary in every way and our classic room 14  was spacious and beautifully and newly appointed.
My birthday happened to be on the Friday and at dinner the lights suddenly dimmed and the chef brought in a wonderful surprise birthday cake with lighted candles while all the guests sang. A magic moment never to be forgotten. Thank you to Wayne,Jesse and all the staff.



Warm friendship and a physical challenge

Our family of four took part in the HF Family walking holiday. The experience was truly exceptional, offering picturesque scenery, delightful walks, and excellent accommodation. House Manager Wayne’s and the HF guides’ warm hospitality and expertise in guiding the walks made the trip even more enjoyable. The program's family-friendly activities and engaging experiences ensured everyone had a memorable time. I highly recommend this holiday to families seeking a perfect blend of adventure and relaxation amidst the beautiful landscapes of St. Ives. You won't be disappointed!

Wonderful family time in an active setting

What a lovely gem. Owned by HF Holidays, it is high on the hill overlooking the rooftops of St. Ives and the Atlantic Ocean. It's a 10 minute walk to the beach and a 30 minute walk back. HILLS! The grounds of Chy Morvah are immaculate with a nice pool and a mini golf activity on the lawn. The breakfast and dinner gatherings are so much fun and the food is  nicely prepared. The staff seemed small but I think most businesses such as this are having to make do with smaller staffs. The rooms were clean and there are many options for activities in the area. I would go back multiple times.

A nice place to stay

A lot of visitors are here on a walking holiday, but I was on a holiday visiting places associated with artists and authors.

I could not fault Chy Morvah as a place to stay.  I had opted for a 'value single' which was cheaper than other singles. But I loved my room.  It was perfectly adequate for one, with an ensuite shower and loo, and wardrobe and drawer space which would shame a much more expensive hotel.  I also had a desk and chair which is so useful in a hotel bedroom. 

It was Room 42 in the Lanyon building and I would ask for it again if I was going back. I did notice that the WiFi signal was less strong in my room than, say, in the lounge in the main building.

The breakfasts and lunches were superbly cooked and served. The evening menu, changed every day.  

I wasn't so impressed with the lunchtime sandwiches.  Although there was a choice it did not include a basic like a ham roll.  Mayo was often missing even when requested eg tuna and mayo.

The hotel has a bar and I thought the prices were very reasonable, and it also has a nice, comfortable lounge for residents to use. A quiz, talk or other entertainment was laid on most evenings.

Staff were unfailingly polite and helpful.

We were lucky to have hot weather and some guests were using the pool.

It is inevitably a steep walk down into the town centre - to get my morning paper I allowed 15 minutes - 5 minutes there and 10 back.

There is a car park.

A very enjoyable week's stay in September

Chy Morvah is an excellent HF country house:

-situation is perfect: a stroll down hill into glorious St Ives
-good parking

-Food: absolutely exceptional, a delight every night. Soups were consistently high quality and delicious and everything cooked to perfection. We stayed at a Brasserie Blanc on the way down and frankly, the chef here is in a different class

-staff: very friendly everywhere. Tom an absolute gem and the kitchen staff great

-HF evenings are delightful and engaging

-room fine although the three lower ground floor ones did smell very musty and necessitated windows being open all the time. I believe these are being refurbished soon so hopefully problem will go away. No room cleaning on one day

Overall a really enjoyable stay and every meal a treat

Not just for the food.....

HF Holidays offer a unique experience of guided walking (and other activities such as painting) in a house party atmosphere, but the enforced sociability will not suit everyone.  As I posted eight years ago, the hotel is not suitable for those unwilling to share tables or get up early.
Rooms vary considerably in quality, but there is an option of booking a superior room.

Good for a walking holiday

We have stayed at the Chi Morvah for 3 nights for hiking with HF Holidays walking group.
The Place is located up hill st. Ives at tan Victorian style property. 
They have their free parking. 
Rooms are nice - there was everything we needed. Very clean. Food was great.

Beautiful stay

Spent a week at this HF hotel specialising in offering guided walks around the local area.
We understand all the rooms have been recently redecorated and ours was very small but fresh with a seaside theme. No choice as room numbers were limited due to covid rules. Narrow corridors so with the new regulations one at a time. We found the bed smaller than we are used to but anything bigger would have been too much of a squeeze. We looked after our own cleaning which was fine. Shower and wc perfectly adequate but again on the small side.
Very happy with the hotel catering, good choices and portions big enough to satisfy a walkers appetite. A big plus, packed lunches were supplied with a very generous selection of sandwiches and snacks.
HF supply guides for a selection of walking experiences and the local cliff walks are quite strenuous.
Can’t fault the staff, friendly and efficient.
A small pool with a sun terrace was also welcome after a long days’ walking.

Comfortable hotel

First time here. We were with a walking group of 40+ people. Great location in the town, with a car park (tick). Wife & I had a premier room with a sea view = lovely. Spacious, clean & with a big bathroom. Staff were all wonderful, but sadly the food was distinctly average. We stayed for 4 nights & there was evening "entertainment" laid on. The bar & lounge area were light & airy, quite pleasant to relax in after a hard days walking ! GOOD TIP : Always book a premier room if staying at any HF house, it is definitely worth the extra dosh.

Ideal for a walking holiday.

I returned here for my second stay, a week in late August 2018.

I upgraded from a single standard seaview to a premium single seaview, (room 9,) probably not worth it not least as the room was very small.  The view was still very good though.

I was a self guided walker, and did not join in evening entertainment.

Food was generally very good, but accuracy of pack lunch orders was very mixed.

Staff generally very good, and walk leaders all good fun.

I love the area, so expect to return in future.
