They have an amazing room with a view which needs to be booked in advance.
A creaky staircase lead one to a room perched high above the rest. It is essentially a BB(With no Breakfast) The tiny bar offers chips, drinks & their famous burgers, whenever it opens. The owners are very helpful and friendly and do the best with the resources available to them. Janine offered suggestions for local venues and was helpful  with the early check out. The hotel offers surfing gear for hire but no lessons. Recommended only as a last resort. There is nothing offered to the residents besides a lobby overlooking the bay, or so I thought, until I saw the table tennis & pool table hidden in the bar area. It should have been displayed more prominently to its advantage. However, the establishment is up for a change of ownership in October and it might actually happen then. P.S. My family loves all things HP.

The creaky cauldron

Unbelievably mouldy place,smell kills.I would never recommend it to anyone.No windows or fans in the bathrooms,old smelly dirty carpets,all furniture seems to be 100 years old.The only advantage is its location-very close to Fistral beach

The worst hotel i have ever been to

Our room was clean, warm and with a wonderful view of Fistral Beach. I slept like a log on a comfortable bed. The hostess was so friendly and went out of her way to make us feel welcome, that included our beagle Hugo too! We didn't have breakfast so cannot comment on that. I was concerned to read negative comments before visiting, however I found nothing to warrant them. Would I book again, definitely!

Absolutely superb location

We booked to stay here so we could walk to the beach to surf. As it was just my boys and I we opted for a “cheap and cheerful” stay in Fistral.

The hotel was both cheap and cheerful with the owner even renting us bodyboards and wetsuits which saved us time and even more money!

I cannot praise them high enough, simply lovely!

A real gem of a hotel!

Was interested to see if the negative reviews were warranted for the Surfside. We visit Cornwall and opted for the Surfside as our usual hotel on Fistral was only open at weekends during January. The Surfside allow pets and it's location is superb. We had the double with ensuite with views over Fistral beach. For a short break the room was fine and there was plenty of storage space. The owner Janine  made us very welcome and clearly explained that they have stopped serving breakfasts now as for many who  chose the budget option it no longer makes it viable to serve. We went to the hotel next door but during the season there are other places to eat for less. Many reviews are unfair and I would say that if you are expecting deep pile carpets and room service then be prepared to pay the prices. Don't expect it from a hotel that advertises itself as a hotel that caters for those on a budget. There were no threadbare carpets; the rooms and general areas were clean; I was told breakfast would not be provided when I booked so there were no surprises. I would imagine during high season it would be a perfect place to stay with games room at back end of bar so no chance of losing the kids in a maze of  corridors. We were told that the bar food is  great and the locals look forward to it starting up again when the season starts up. Would we stay again - absolutely. Would advise people to book directly with the hotel so that you get correct information and possibly a better rate.  

Great location.

It was dirty and smelt musty, the carpets are thread bear and dirty. We paid extra for a room with a ensuite and it was the size of a normal toilet. No hot water to wash with in the morning. We had booked 2 nights and only stayed for one as it was so bad. I have never stayed in anything so terrible. No breakfast !! and yet the sign outside said B&B faulse advertising. When i asked to go out the back for a cigarette i was told it would be slippery on the wet decking but i could go out the front on the slippery wet decking. If the lights are on in the bar then its open but if there off its closed, the heating might be on but it might not, Booking.com should really take a look at some of these hotels they are selling as it cost us £180.00 and i would'nt even pay no more than you would pay for a B&B. I could'nt wait to get home and have a shower and wash the clothes we had been wear whilst at that dive, i felt so dirty.

HORRIBLE HOTEL

On first appearances the Hotel looked good, from the outside, very close to Fistral beach. Parking is very limited, about 6 if you are lucky. On the inside, the bar and food area was ok and the lady owner was very polite and welcoming. 
I booked a deluxe double, en-suite at £99 per night. What I got was a disgustingly smelly tip! The room smelt like dry rot, wet rot, damp and mouldy absolutely horrible stink is putting it mildly. The thought of it now makes me feel sick!
