Extremely helpful landlord from beginning to end

Room was clean and owner provided everything for our one night stay. Pub had a lot of character although needed some tlc in some areas. Bed was very comfortable.

I slept very well for the night. Very welcoming host who offered a double bed on my arrival. Room was very clean with an excellent selection of hot drinks and a kettle. The first place I have stayed that had soya milk in the room so I was able to have a nice cuppa in the morning. Thank you will stay again!

Excellent sleep!

I found the Dog Inn to be in a great location when staying in Halstead. The pub landlord, Richard, gave me a warm and friendly welcome and showed me my room on arrival to ensure I was happy with the room and its facilities which I was. This was greatly appreciated. I had a comfortable two night stay and the breakfasts were both good too. Real ales available in the bar in the evening. Halstead has a thriving high street with a nice range of useful shops and restaurants. There is a pleasant public park and I enjoyed a good few hours in the large Antiques centre in a former Mill building.  Many thanks Richard for an enjoyable stay

Just what I needed for my stay

Attended a local event so booked a room for the evening. Excellent experience. Friendly staff and locals. Room very clean and comfortable.

Very expensive for basic accommodation. En suite very small, no evening food available. Landlord very friendly.

Was greeted upon arrival by the very genial Richard who kindly informed me he had upgraded the room I had booked to a bigger one, Thanks Richard, a great start.  Lovely bar with friendly and interesting locals. 
Didn't eat in the hotel, but when I did return to the bar later it was bustling and welcoming. 
The highlight was Richard's breakfast, prepared fresh to order and using local quality ingredients, it was delicious. 
Make no mistake, this is a pub with lovey clean rooms with quality bedding, towels etc.  If you are more comfortable in the corporate sterility of a chain hotel, this won't be for you.  
If you want a lovely stay, talking to interesting people and enjoying genuine hospitality, this is a great place.

If you're looking for a good priced, clean and comfortable room, look no further.
   The Dog Inn is a traditional boozer, with no thrills and the outside might put people off, but the welcome was warm and I wouldn't hesitate to book it again.
   When leaving, the pub is on a bad bend, so caution is required

Fantastic friendly host with a cozy pub atmosphere. 
Breakfast was very nice, tasty and plentiful. 

All in all, a great find and well worth the money. Highly recommended. 

The rooms are basic but clean and tidy with tea coffee facilities and comfy beds.
