A totally relaxing and restful experience - from the minute we arrived we felt we had met friends! Catherine and Howard were so welcoming and so generous in opening their amazing home to us. The whole house has been very sympathetically refurbished and there is something to look at - and marvel at- in every room. Both Cath and Howard are so knowledgeable of the area and the history of the area and house, we felt we left so much better informed about life in the valleys than when we’d arrived. A wonderful collection of military artefacts - just sorry we missed a canon firing! But the bat more than made up for it! Breakfast was amazing in a very formal but relaxed dining room. Cath and Howard never seemed to stop working and their hard work is evident in every detail - they have created a real gem. Thank you for a wonderful weekend.

A real gem of the Welsh Valleys.

First time here,  won't be last as my brother lives 10 min away.  Everything was perfect. Cath & Howard are really lovely, our room with 2 double beds was absolutely superb, all amenities were there, the room & bathroom perfectly clean & the breakfasts were incredible. I've also gifted my parents a stay here as I'm sure they'll love Gellihaf as much as we do !

Just amazing !

At last we managed to stay at Gellihaf House! We weren't disappointed. In fact - it blew us away.
Cath and Howard are great hosts. They have created something special. Attention to detail is first class. The rooms are fab. The food is fab. The location is fab. Cardiff, the Beacons are all close by.
Wonderful value for money.
We will certainly be returning. 

Gellihaf House - Fabulous 

What a fantastic place to stay and so convenient to use as your base for touring this part of South Wales. The hosts Howard and Cath go the extra mile to make you welcome, after 5 minutes we were asked if we would like tea and Welsh Cakes which were delicious. Our room was absolutely perfect and spotlessly clean the bathroom I must say is equal to any hotel we have stayed anywhere in the world. 
Breakfast was so good freshly made bread with a choice of fresh fruit cereals and gorgeous muffins and the cooked breakfast with so many choices.
We didn’t need to eat the rest of the day. Howard’s knowledge  helped and his recommendation of this part of Wales of what to see we found very helpful.
We enjoyed so much we will certainly return to Gellihaf House later in the year.

This B&B is a real Gem and very high standards maintained definitely will return

Following a recent visit to Gellihaf House, we received an email inviting us to post a notice on Trip Advisor, so here goes,  The house is very impressive and beautiful and it is obvious a great deal of care and attention has been lavished on it by the owners.  However, sadly it falls short of a 5 star review as there were several things which did not meet our expectations and let it down

We were touring in Wales when an email arrived giving us check in details.   This included previously unknown information that check in was not until 5.00pm (rather late) and that shoes were not to be worn above the ground floor.   We complied with this but found that the reception hall floor was gritty and as a consequence when we got to our room the bottoms of our socks were dirty.  This was also the case when we returned on our second day and it seemed the floor had not been swept.

 From previous posts and from the "house manual" we gathered that Welsh Cakes and Muffins were available and were rather surprised to find none in our room or out at breakfast.  At no stage we were we told we had to specially request them.

When we arrived back in the late afternoon of our second day to our dismay we found the bed had not been made, the cups washed or the wet towels changed.  When Howard was asked about this the next morning he replied that as we were only staying 2 nights he didn't think it necessary!  

At £140 per night we found our overall experience disappointing.

Lovely But Fell Short of Expectations

I grew up in the area, in fact my family lived in the Coal Hole next door! I moved away many years ago, but had to return recently for a family funeral. Staying at GelliHaf was excellent. Our room - The Taf - was well equipped and comfortable. Both Cath and Howard were excellent hosts and the breakfast very good.
Will definitely be back and stay in better circumstances.


A wonderful stay

What a lovely place to stay. Catherine and Howard are a lovely couple and make you feel right at home. Nothing seems too much trouble. They have done an amazing job on the house it is beautifully decorated. Cannot fault anything, rooms are so well equipped and beds very comfortable. Spoilt for choice at breakfast,Catherine is clearly a great cook and homemaker.


What a good experience, would definitely book again.

We grew up in the area and knew the house and out of curiosity we wanted to stay when we found it was now a B&B. Our expectations were exceeded in a 2 night stay. We were greeted almost as family friends by Howard and Catherine. We were give a full tour of the house and were filled with admiration for the restoration work that was done.  It is a beautiful house maintaining the "Arts and Crafts" style. Our bedroom was spotlessly clean and very comfortable. The bathroom was superbly equipped with double washbasins, bath and separate shower. Breakfast was special with fruit pastries and homemade bread followed by a cooked to order hot breakfast with locally sourced items.  The house is ideally placed for visiting South Wales attractions such as Caerphilly Castle. Our hosts could not have been more friendly and welcoming and we look forward to our next stay

Brilliant B&B

We loved every second that we stayed in the two nights we stayed at Gellihaf House. Catherine and Howard were really so very lovely and welcoming, and even though we live nearby it felt like a little home away from home. The bed is really very comfortable, the bathroom is immaculate and the house itself is stunning. Then there's the breakfast - so good! A shame my eyes were bigger than my stomach as it was a lovely cooked breakfast alongside a continental breakfast bar. Genuinely one of the nicest places we've been and we can't wait to come back soon.

Loved Gellihaf House - thank you Catherine and Howard!

This is such a high end, comfortable, and beautiful place. The rooms are top quality with a view of the garden below. The garden even has a fountain. We stayed here three nights and enjoyed all of it. Howard and Cath are very welcoming. Both of them liked to visit but also left you to yourself. If I were ever to return to this area, this would be the place I would stay.
