Stayed here three nights,  the room smells very musty and the carpet badly needs replacing it is a trip hazard , I caught my foot on it a couple of times. There is also no AC so the room was very hot with a window that has a restricted opening.
The bar didn’t want to sell me a cream tea even though they were being advertised, he said I had to order from the receptionist. She was dubious about whether or not the chef would Make me one. She said she would have to go and ask him. He did make me one and I had to go back to the bar to pay for it where the barman visibly huffed! I wouldn’t come back.

Musty smelly room

If you're looking for five star luxury, spa and swimming pool with a Michelin fine dining restaurant then The Imperial isn't for you! 

If you're looking for brilliant value for money with fantastic customer service from every single member of staff, delicious freshly cooked food both at breakfast and dinner - 3 course for only £20 and great choices too - drinks that aren't the normal hotel high prices, spotlessly clean rooms with sea views and balconies in the heart of the town set right in the beach then book a stay here, I can highly recommend it!

We booked a room on 21st June  cost £90 for a night.vi believe you get what you pay for. HOWEVER, even though it was only £90, some standard should still be kept.

When we arrived we were kept waiting at reception for a while, then a larger guy came from another room and shortly said "I'm coming" also at this point we weren't sure what to do with parking so we started to enter out cars reg on the tablet at reception, to which the guy shortly said again "don't use that it doesn't work". Me and my wife both though...he's a bit abrupt. (Not a big deal for us but worth mentioning customers relations wasn't his strong point)

Our main issue was as soon as we got into our room (room 5) it STANK of damp, we had to open the windows the whole time we were there. 

We had in-laws staying at the hotel too in room 203 I believe. And they said that there room had a bad damp smell too so they opened there windows the whole time they were there.

Room is basic, but again you get what you pay for. Plugs opposite side of the room to the bed, no iron, tiny TV (can hardly see from the bed), very dated, the chair in the room was ripped, stained and dirty bath mats  cracked walls etc.

Walls paper thin (we heard the room above us going to the toilet, and hear talking from other room clear as day)

Very hard bed (that's down to preference) didn't sleep well. 

But again, you get what you pay for. So don't expect to get a nice room for the money you pay etc.

Plus notes - comfy pillows and fantastic location!!!

So to summarise, damp smelling room, the room needs upkeep and maintenance, reception not exactly warm and welcoming.

On a side note, I have been reading some of the other reviews and I notice the manager not noticing the smell of damp that other customers have been smelling. I can only assume you can get used to the smell if you are there all the time.

Cheap

Spent two nights in early June. Room with sea view was a little tired, but otherwise perfectly acceptable. Breakfast was busy but plenty of choice. However, beware of parking. We were given a card with a qr code, but no information on what to do with it apart from a cheery 'sort it out when you leave'. On leaving we were told nothing was outstanding, but have today received a parking fine of £51 plus a handling charge of £30 from my leasing company!

Absolutely beautiful place steeped in history in the perfect location on the beach near to the town centre bars and restaurants excellent town centre buzzing this place is old England just an absolute amazing place for a break plus the breakfast was top drawer

Terrific place for a really relaxing time

Hotel is a little tired but staff where great as well aa breakfast.Good for dogs as has large grounds for confort breaks.Thanks would stay again.

A nice hotel in a good location close to the beach & town, our room was spacious & clean with basic facilities. A nice large bar area with outside seating. We only had breakfast at the hotel but the restaurant area was very nice with a big variety of breakfast choices. Staff were all very polite , friendly & helpful , overall a very pleasant stay at this hotel.

Booked superior room which looked same as classic except did have sea view.Hotel in need of refurbishment. Access up steps from carpark which is charged for. No complementary bathroom products. Good positiono  seafront.

Room was ok, nice to see a coffee machine, unfortunately you only get coffee pods on your first night, we stayed 3 nights so a bit of a tease.Had to pay for parking which was a bit disappointing as carpark was mostly empty.Room wasn't cleaned very well, not hoovered. If you sat on the balcony you got a good view of the dogs pooing and weeing on the grounds at the front frequently just under balcony. Otherwise a good trip.
