What a lovely little gem of a place.    In the middle of nowhere, very pretty and quiet, absolutely amazing room called “Old Bob”. Very spacious and very well equipped, plenty of drawers and wardrobe space.    This is an awesome room if you have a disability as it has an enormous wet room and bedroom space.    The is very beautifully decorated and designed.  The light in the bathroom is brilliant as it gets brighter slowly so you don’t hurt your eyes in the morning.    The food was served hot and well presented, staff are very polite, the tables are very well set out and has a lovely fire on entry.      The only one thing I would point out is that there wasn’t a lot of outside lights from our room to the bar.     Maybe they were faulty or not turned on.   Other than that.  It was absolutely excellent

Refurbishment has been done lovely . The menu choice is very limited nothing special   .  Prices are to high for a residential pub. Need to lower prices to make it a success.  We unfortunately won’t be going again too unfortunately too expensive

The Compasses Broomfield Road, Chelmsford

We just wanted a cheap room for the night close to town as it’s cheaper than a taxi home for us. 
On arrival we couldn’t get parked but the owner soon came out & found somewhere for us to park. The rooms are at the back of the pub we were shown to our room which was lovely & warm. The rooms are clean but basic a little small but fine for one nights stay. Shower not very powerful but plenty of hot water. Tea coffee biscuits & bottle of water provided. All in all served the purpose fine for us. 

Cheap & cheerful 

Stayed here Saturday 23rd November for 1 night.

After reading reviews for this place, I was not really looking forward to my visit.  Due to being one of the cheapest me and my boyfriend decided to give it a go.  We were pleasantly surprised!

Had everything we needed, tea coffee and even two bottles of water.  Hairdryer and toiletries.  My boyfriend said the bed was not that comfy but I thought it was fine and slept well.  

Staff were lovely, free parking, so thank you compasses for a nice weekend!  



Lovely little room

The new management seem to have had a bit of a clean up and it shows. We haven’t been in here for months as we really didn’t like the look of it.  However, we had a great evening of bbq, live music and mojitos and I’m pretty sure we will be back.

Great place to stay, lovely hospitality, will be coming back next year for sure. It’s not too far from the town centre and very close and accessible to Central Park for pride and other music events that are held in the area.

Great place

Chalet type room at the rear of a pub. It was quite. Room was really dated, not particularly nice decor, some damp. Carpet was a disgrace. TV was broken but it was fixed. Lock on door was dubious. It is cheap accommodation so I guess you get what you pay for. Would not stay again.

Basic

The room was a decent size as I was given the family room with 3 single beds. It could do with a makeover as it's very tired looking. The bathroom could certainly do with a makeover. The shower/bath tiles were mouldy and the only way I could have a hot bath was to fill it from the shower.

B & B without Breakfast!

The chap who book us in was friendly. The room was clean-ish, the bathroom was damp & had black mound around the shower. The towels smelt so strongly of cigarettes we could not use them.

It was quiet enough and tea and coffee were provided.
