Cheap and cheerful, though stuck in the 80s. Everything could do with a face-lift, but the rooms were clean, bed comfy, and breakfast great. The host was very friendly, and I was not expecting a Chinese lady to be running the place. Because we booked well ahead, I don't think you'll find a cheaper B&B.

No frills B&B in an old pub. Rough around the edges but the rooms were comfy and good value for money, showers were hot and powerful, breakfast was spot on. Staff were friendly and helpful.
Bike parking was in a locked yard at rear of pub. 
Be aware food options on an evening in Alston are limited, there's always Co-op supermarket as a fall back plan, open until 10

Good low cost option for C2C or pennine way accom

The hotel is old and very dated - carpets were very worn, 1980's vintage TV in my small single room (that I couldn't get to work properly!), altogether it lacked any charm or appeal.
But the prices were very good value for a one-night stay - £35 for Bed and Breakfast.
It did "what it says on the tin" - providing a clean soft (but comfortable) bed and a 6-item breakfast with juice, coffee plus toast and jam.
My room wasn't en-suite - as the price suggests! A unisex small cubicle toilet is upstairs with a faulty lock - a nuisance. The shower worked - piping hot water. It was OK for one night, but I wouldn't stay for longer unless you are on a tight budget. Some other places nearby are much more expensive.

Good value for money but an old and tired hotel in need of TLC!

Great stay at the Victoria hotel. This hotel is definitely on the old and tired side but it's very reasonably priced and the owner friendly and hospitable. We arrived early on bicycles on a cold we day. The room was soon warmed up. Great breakfast. I'd definitely recommend a stay in this charactful place!

Great stay at the Victoria hotel 

When my pal and I arrived we were a bit taken by somewhat dated decor of the place. However, this more than made up for by the landlady who was really lovely. The rooms were basic but clean and breakfast in the morning was great.

Needs modernising but really great service

I stayed one night while walking the Pennine Way. The hotel is no frills budget in a largely unmodernised pub, so not for you if you're looking for luxuries, but perfect for walkers and cyclists passing through. The room was warm and clean, the shower hot and the bed comfortable. TV in room, though I didn't use it. Good breakfast. The host (Tian?) was very friendly and helpful.

Great few days here. landlady very accomodating especially with bike storage and huge breakfasts to get me going in the morning
Although it was looking tired it was all I needed for cycle touring, though at the end of the day the extra 33 stairs to the bedroom seemed 1 hill to many. Shame they did not do dinners but pleanty of other places nearby.

Stayed here overnight on a two day C2C ride. 

This is cheap and cheerful, yes, and the hotel equivalent of a greasy spoon. 

The hotel needs modernising, refurbishing and CLEANING!

I stayed here whilst walking through the area.
The pub is in the middle of the town.
It only opens at 6pm but there were numbers to ring if early. Anyhow the friendly landlady arrived just as I did so check in was quick.
My single room was basic but clean with adequate facilities. 
I slept well as the were few people staying or drinking downstairs, I suspect it could be noisy at times.
Breakfast was a full English plate, no frills. [?COVID  style]
This place was friendly and OK for one night. I would stay again if in the area.

Basic pub room.

Whi,e waiting for our takeaway we had a little tipple. Then another and another etc, you know the story.. popped in for half hour and stayed for four...  relaxed little pub.. land Lord is a nice bloke who likes a laugh..
