Just got back from Torba – we stayed at the hotel for 6 days along with 10 friends (6 rooms in total).
I have never done this before but I have decided to share our group’s opinion about the place as it was one of the most disappointing travel experiences that we have ever encountered. 

The key reason behind our disappointment is that we feel cheated by the hotel’s management – here are the details:
The hotel is old (which itself is not a bad thing) and poorly maintained. To illustrate - the toilet flush did not work properly in 3 out of 6 rooms occupied by us and each time we wanted to use it, we had to manually manoeuvre the top part of the water container in order to re-fill it with water. 
During one of such manoeuvres, the top part has fallen on the floor and got broken. 
We have accepted the fault for this situation and told the management that we will cover the repair costs (which could potentially be close to nothing as one can imagine gluing the broken part together – a solution which seems to be commonly used in this hotel as we have observed by looking on other items in the toilet).
The management waited until the evening on the last day of our 6-day stay (the incident took place on day 1) with presenting us with their price quote. When they did – we were unpleasantly surprised – the sum was close to 4000 UAH (to illustrate – you can easily buy a brand new, complete toilet set for ca. 1000 UAH in Ukraine, the labour cost is super cheap too).
We tried to have a constructive discussion and even found a decent quality, brand new complete toilet set (in fact better than the existing one) in one of the local online stores (available for pick-up in Iwano-Frankiwsk – the nearest big city to Bukovel) which could be bought for ca. 1350 UAH. 
The management, however, did not care about what we had to say and even frankly stated that if we do not accept the price, they will call the police.
In the end we paid the full price but decided that it would be fair to share this true story with other potential visitors to this hotel.  

Some other observations:
We really aren’t the complaining type of travellers and normally we would simply forget about such things as many of us have stayed in far worse conditions, for instance, when travelling throughout Asia, but given the situation we have decided to provide a fuller list of issues here:
Smell: it seems that the ventilation system in the entire main hotel (i.e. the building with the restaurant in it) is not working correctly as the entire place, including rooms, smells like old cooking oil. The smell can be sensed throughout the day/night and becomes particularity intensive during dinner hours. We had to wash all of our cloths after come back (including the unused ones) to get rid of it. 
Noise: the main building is largely made of wood, which looks nice but it seems that someone took some serious shortcuts during construction as one can hear conversations taking place 2 rooms away. In one case we had active neighbours above our room, who would walk around their room until late night and we could hear each and every step they took along with other less pleasant sounds.
Restaurant/bar: tried it twice (breakfast and dinner) and both times we were highly disappointed with food which was untasty and very greasy (maybe this is somehow related to the smelly issue).   

On the bright side:
The staff was generally friendly and helpful, although it was tricky to communicate with them as they did not seem to speak any other language than Ukrainian (which seems to be a common problem in the entire Bukovel). 
The location of the hotel is pretty good – it takes roughly 10-15 mins to walk to the town centre. The only drawback is that the hotel is placed on a very steep hill and some of our cars (the non 4x4 ones) had problems going uphill during particularity snowy days (we had to leave them ca. 400m from the hotel on such occasions).

It is a shame that we have to share this disappointing review as Bukovel itself is a lovely place with many kind people and good skiing/snowboarding conditions, but the hotel management left us no choice. We will certainly consider this destination in the future but Torba will not be shortlisted as a potential place to stay.
