Nile Hotel Jinja

Nile Hotel Jinja is a simple but nice place with spacious rooms at an affordable rate. The management and staff are very helpful too.
Please note that the hotel is not located in Jinja town(as I initially thought). If you are coming from Kampala, turn to the left at Njeru/ around Nile breweries.If you reach the bridge, you've missed the turn.

Their staff are polite, friendly and they have a customer care relationship. The rooms are comfortable and the prices are fair to everyone, their food is good so you can enjoy it because of its nice to have on such a trip. The manger is also a friendly person.

Great staff and meals

Spent a night over there with nice memories not bad to stay at rate offered, service was ok staff was very good, taste of food was OK but needs to be improved,I will be coming back soon to stay while coming back from Totoro.

Weekend

Photos online seemed misleading, so much so we wondered if we had found another hotel by the same name at the same location. Not as described.

Shower didn't work, and no air con, but there was a fan. It's basic, comfortable enough, but do not expect any trimmings. Food was alright. Not a great place to chill. Staff were friendly though, so if you don't kind something basic, them this is fine.

Very basic

This place is hard to put into words but dysfunctional seems appropriate. During our 5 night stay we met the owner who is very nice but seems to have no direct communication with his staff. The staff, especially the managers are just there to nod and tell you what you  want to hear. My biggest complaint is around room service. I asked daily for them NOT to come into our room. The front desk said okay and when we got back to our room someone had come in and cleaned it. It drove me crazy that I had to ask daily and they still never got it. Our room didn’t have a mosquito net, the detached shower head wasn’t able to sit in the broken wall mount, it leaked water all over the bathroom floor (flooded it is a better term), the toilet simply wouldn’t flush on several occasions and it was very warm in our room but we were missing half the screen door! So no cool breeze either. The bathrooms also have windows that open up to the hallways outside the door (so odd) but there’s no screen on them so mosquitoes came through those windows.  When we showered we’d put a towel on the floor on each end of the tub to help with the flooding. Room service would come in and take those towel away and sometimes they’d hang them up for us to use! I even explained the shower issue and that I wanted the towels left on the floor because of this leaking and they still didn’t get it. Also, the front desk staff whispers! It was the weirdest thing. They have THE softest voices in all of Uganda. I have stayed at backpackers in Uganda for the same price with better service and all around nicer then this place. This place needs some attention to the building and the staff needs better training.

Wouldn’t recommend.

The hotel basically only has downsides:

- far away from the centre
- no facilities close to hotel (no supermarket, restaurants etc)
- unfriendly staff at reception
- dishonest manager (part of our group had to pay additional tax on the room rate and some didn't; when confronted we got brushed off with a weird excuse)
- food at restaurant takes at least 1.5 hours to be ready and then you might get what you ordered or not
- mosquito nets don't close which results in bites (we had some pegs which came in handy)
- breakfast is included in room rate but is so limited that it's not worth anything
- noisy rooms, you can hear every word spoken on the hallway
- bathroom window is facing the hallway, which means everyone can see you taking a shower as there was no curtain when we arrived (I had to ask for one and got a non fitting one with the promise it would be done proper later one which never happened)

on a more positive note:
- cleaning staff really does a good job, the ladies even cleaned our shoes which with all the dust in dry season was very welcome
