The Leatherback Lodge

I'm a wildlife photographer and author and I had an excellent stay at Leatherback Lodge. It's comfortable accommodation with good food in a beautiful location. The owners, Nella and Neville were very helpful giving advice on how to explore the island and arranging trips to see the Leatherback turtles and visit places like Nariva Wetlands and Caroni Swamp. I would definitely recommend it to people looking to enjoy the wildlife of Trinidad.

My husband planned a quiet 3 night getaway for my birthday at the Leatherback Lodge!  Our stay most rewarding and  absolutely perfect.  Neville and Nella are the most gracious hosts one could ask for.  From our warm welcome at the entrance to our goodbye hug at the end of our stay, we were well taken care of.  The room was comfortable, the food was delightful and the atmosphere just serene!  Too often, we encounter individuals and service providers who are all too comfortable to offer poor service.  It was great to have received genuine, top notch service at the eco lodge....A home away from home!  

We stayed one night with Neville and Nella and did a turtle tour that evening. Nella cooked us two delicious meals, she is a remarkable chef and nailed local flavours like a pro. Neville made sure we were well taken care of in the two rooms we booked - which both were very clean and prepared with care. The location is about a 20 minute drive to the turtle watching site - sitting atop a small hill surrounded by fruit trees, and rainforest. The gallery gives you ample opportunity to watch local birds which abound by the small feeding area. We had the opportunity to view many hummingbirds, tanagers, kiskadees, and more. A great little eco retreat. No AC but the nights are cool and had no trouble sleeping.

Nella and neville are amazing host/persons, place was clean and felt cozy and relaxing along with their affordable prices it made our stay that much easier….we were even treated with an amazing breakfast on our last day. Definitely will be returning 

We enjoyed our stay at Leatherback Lodge immensely! It was quite cozy and serene, and our hosts made us feel like we were at home. The meals were awesome! If you are a nature lover, you will definitely love it here. A return visit is a must!

The Motto of the Leatherback Lodge is "come as guests, leave as friends" or was it 'family'... and that is just what happened. Neville and Nella are excellent hosts and we got along as though we knew each other for years. The food was 'sublime' and the environment, quiet and restful. This was a perfect special weekend couples getaway.

It was a last minute booking as part of a turtle watching adventure. We were openly welcomed and the kids felt comfortable immediately. 

Our curry dinner was just what my husband needed. The environment was clean and sanitary.  On mornings we woke to the sounds of birds in nearby trees which set a positive and calm mood for the day. 

The continental breakfast was enjoyed by all, even my sometimes picky eaters. The best part of our stay was the lush green surroundings. We enjoyed the fruit trees, pool area, the beautiful variety of flowers, the canopy offered by the trees as we lay in the grass enjoying the morning breeze and being able to roll down the hill.

It was truly a much needed and enjoyed staycation that held true to their motto because we arrived as guests but left as friends and look forward to returning in the future.

My fiancé and I visited the lodge for one night and it was a wonderful experience. We felt very relaxed being surrounded by nature. The lodge allows you to get close to nature while having all the comforts you need, which is difficult to get in many other places I have visited. 

Our room was clean and I loved the spacious bathroom. Nella and Neville were excellent hosts! Check in and check out were very pleasant experiences. We had our meals catered by Nella and they were all delicious. And of course how can we forget Dot, Ben and Rio. The bunch truly made our visit unforgettable.

When you visit be sure to walk with your BBQ items and swimming trunks as your stay at the lodge allows you to either go on tours, visit waterfalls and beaches or sit back and cook up some barbecue while you soak in the plunge pool at the lodge facilities.

I recently took a trip to Trinidad for professional reasons and I landed at the Leatherback Lodge. Right off the bat, Nella and Neville made me feel at home and showed me around the property, along with complimentary beers the first evening. The property is a gem in the middle of the rain forest. Right from the porch or in the backyard, you can experience an incredible variety of species ranging from hummingbirds, birds (~70 species), insects, small mammals and others. I woke up every morning to the sounds of the forest and nothing could be more relaxing than that, especially after an intense day at work. Every day, Nella and Neville would bend over backwards to prepare some delicious local food made with local ingredients. Over 8 days, I really got a full understanding of the delicious creole cuisine, with a special twist! Nella and Neville really are amazing hosts and tend to your every need, especially when my health was not at its best. They love interacting with the guests but are extremely good at reading signs as well to leave enough personal space. The property is very practical and clean, the rooms are amazing and the views are just absolutely tremendous. The pool and garden are for me a huge plus, as I spent all my time there to relax and take pictures of wild animals. Nella and Neville also give excellent recommendations and don't hesitate bringing you to wonderful places in the area provided it fits their schedule. In short, I don't think I would have liked to end up anywhere else on the island to experience Trinidad and the warmth of its people. I ABSOLUTELY recommend the lodge for anyone traveling alone or with kids! Nella and Neville, huge thanks to you!

My family spent 3 days at LL and we had a very enjoyable time. Our hosts - Nella and Neville - were wonderful and the atmosphere and food were delicious.  My son enjoyed being around their handsome dogs and The Boss, Mr. Rio (smile). A great getaway from the hustle and bustle of life where you can relax to the utmost.
