We stayed in Frejs magasin, small rooms but very clean and nice. Peaceful and quiet and only a minute stroll down to an awesome beach. The manager of the hotell himself, Frejs, drove us into town one of the days, because the bus did not go. Such a nice man and so was the rest of the staff. They were very helpful in every way. Sitting in the peaceful and beautiful patio, surrounded by trees and flowers in a beautiful garden having a very nice Swedish breakfast, was a great way to start the day. Ljugarn is a very nice place, and we went with children 7 years old. There is not many things to do in Ljugarn for children except going to the beach and playing mini golf, but hire a car and you can go everywhere and do fun things. A car is a must in Gotland, as the buses only takes you a few places and not too often. Our visit to Fårö in the north, with the absolutely stunning beaches and swimming in the blue lagune, was one of the highlights. The water is quite cold - we did not mind though. Gotland is also quite pricy during the summer season, but we will recommend Gotland to everyone! Great Island, easy to get around with a car, and many awesome beaches to visit with white sand you have never seen the like of before. We will be back! :)

Beautiful surroundings and great staff!

I agree with everything that Jesper G wrote in 2016 about the place. Great village, wonderful beach, warm sea (this was the baking summer of 2018!), lovely bungalows in a great park with a very convenient coop supermarket. 
BUT...
The place is so unloved. Why don’t they buy new equipment from Ikea every year or so? Everything was broken: in our bungalow there was no blind on the door (important when it is daylight at 4:30am), the kettle was broken in 3 ways (no lid, leaking into its base, smells of burning plastic when boiled), saucepan lid broken, cooking spoon broken, freezer door of fridge broken, fridge overheating and only one of three kitchen lights working, and that’s without getting into the small stuff that’s not worth complaining about. 
It’s frustrating because it COULD be so lovely, but we and our friends in the house next door (similar list including the cutlery drawer without a handle which could only be opened by opening the cupboard below first) were really irritated by these little things. 
Overall I would consider staying here again, but I would look hard for better alternatives in the village.

Lovely place but unloved

This "pensionat" is very traditional and a bit old fashioned. The rooms in the main building are very small and toilet and shower in the corridor. No airconditioning!
The breakfast is not impressive and could be presented in a nicer way.

Charming  Inn (Penionat) from the 1910-20-ies.

This is a lovely place for a holiday with the family. I stayed for three nights in a small "bungalow" (like you get in the Swedish mountains for the winter vacation). 

I stayed with my wife and two kids (2 and 6 years old) in "Häggen 2" which has a small room (no door) with two beds on the ground floor and two beds in a loft above, kitchen (no oven) with table for four and a bathroom (shower). WiFi is included and (flat screen) TV, but only with the 6 free Swedish terrestrial channels.

There are a number of different size cottages on the grounds to choose from and the one we picked (you do it yourself when you book), sort of hit the sweet spot. It is close to the main building (where you can rent rooms) and the tapas restaurant "Pighuset" ("The Maids' House"). But far away enough not to be disturbed by the hustle and bustle of the service and the kids playing in the fairly large playground just beside it.

It is roughly 500 m to walk (or ride a bike which they let) to the beach. The beach is, to my mind, lovely with sand and grass dunes (rather flat though). It reminded me of the beaches of northern Sardinia (Italy). The weather actually did too with 26-27 degrees (C) and blue skies.

If you want to get out of the sand for a while, you can go to the swimming pools at the nearby camping site instead. There is a small pool, approximately 1 m 50 cm deep, and a kids pool, roughly 40 cm deep which normally cost 50 SEK per day but are free of charge if you live here. It is however roughly 1.2 km to walk...

A real nice thing is that they have a number of charcoal grilles (many Weber) that you can borrow to cook your dinner in.

On the other side of the street there is a grocery store (Coop) for all food items you need and just down the street there's a bakery.

All in all a nice place which I recommend!

Great place for a holiday 

Pensionat Lövängen is a lovely summer place to stay. Their garden, breakfast, standard of the room, service minded and helpful staff  is star quality. Its about 200 meters to the beach and a tasteful Tapas Cava restaurant near building. You get a good value of the asked price, fully recommendable.
