River MOTELL & Vandrarhem

Spent 1 night in the River Motell & Vandrarhem in March and it wasn't the first time - and hopefully not the last. I had a nice single room with own toilet and shower, which was perfect. I had been staying in other rooms with shared bathroom before, several times, both summer and winter/spring. Contactless check-in was perfect, free wifi worked fine. I didn't use much of the common kitchen this time, but had used it before., it's big and comfortable. The motel/hostel is situated by the river and only a few hundred meters from the bus station at the Finnish border. Train station is also a few hundred meters, in the other direction. Supermarkets within walking distance. Calm in the night.

We booked a room in the motel part of this establishment. We got a nice , big room with a big balcony (with table and chairs)  overlooking the river and with good views of Finland. The room was functional with a fridge and own toilet and shower. Linnen and towels were provided . We paid a very reasonable price for all the conveniences we got.  Fully equipped kitchen and dining rooms were free to use downstairs. We had a more private dining room with microwave just beside our room. The personnel were very accomodating and allowed us to check in early. No physical check-in was allowed. The doors were operated by codes which we got via SMS. This was very much adapred to covid times. Free parking outside the hotel. The river walk is a bonus.

Favorite accommodation in Haparanda

River Motell och Hostel was a very good experience

Rooms were tiny and beds unconfortable. We booked room for  three persons and one of us had to sleep on sofa. Kitchen was good and every room has own fridge. Restaurant/pub is very popular so you propably can not go eat there without table reservation. Location is great.

Average hostel

A quiet hostel located on the riverside is waiting for you to have a good night sleep. 

The service was remarkably friendly and welcoming. During my stay I did not really see other people so I had my own peace. After my arrival I could not contact the staff either.

The hostel is kept clean and organised. 
The kitchen is well equipped! The room was pretty and clean but there was a weird smell.

We stayed two nights in this motel and it was okay. The kitchen has everything you need to survive. I thought that the whole surrounding was a little bit creepy.
Would recommend for someone who is just on transit.

Me and the misses stayed here for one night. A cool motel. If you are passing by this a ok motel to stay at. Only dumb thing is that you need to pay for blankets and stuff. 100kr for 2 persons. And the bed was a bit hard. Only 4 tv channels. A bit pricy. But we enjoyd our time here.

Good location and quiet when I visited, but the stairs are noisy. Sheets cost extra. You are given a code for the hostel door if you want to go out and explore Haparanda night-life (is there any?) after 9 p.m.. Hostel is clean and well-kept, I would say 1980's style. Usually hostels have desktop computers for hostelers, but this did not have any.

Nice hostel, but a bit pricey

We were very disappointed about the cleanliness of the motel. The floor was dirty, and the refrigerator smelled like old beer. Furthermore the bathroom smelled very bad, and visibly poor cleaning. In general the motel was overall dirty.

Dirty and to expensive

By far the nastiest place I ever staid at!!! The beds are cheapest Ikea rubbish money can buy and are severely worn out! Our beds on room 2... ware soaked  with nasty sweat smell and the top madrases are heavily stained and smelled horrible . Lady on the cashier if on smoke breaks all the time and when she is there she is socially awkward at best. Sheets and breakfast cost extra and the breakfast is an absolute joke for the price of nearly 10 euros. Our room faced very nosy street. Not a kid friendly , you can hear easily the people in next room. Will never visit this nasty place again ever!!!!!!
