I booked this place as a last minute place to stay, the room was spacious with a big ensuite bathroom.  The mattress seemed new and was extremely comfortable. Breakfast was served to your door. The location is fantastic too just a short walk to the beach. Would definitely recommend and would stay again.

Great last minute stay

The Villa was at the end of the beach side road which led on to the nicest part of the beach. The rooms are nice and clean and bathroom whilst basic had everything you needed. Good air con and fans within the room made them really comfortable and we had the comfiest bed we’ve had this trip. Breakfast was included for us and tasty. Usual omelette, fruits, tea and toast.

Our room had a little kitchen and whilst we had no intention of using it, it was pretty grotty and I would have been disappointed if I did plan to use it as i feel no amount of cleaning could have saved it.

Small note as well there is lots of building work going on nearby didn’t really affect us but I can imagine it can get noisy at times.

Good location, nice place, lots of building work nearby

We stayed there three nights including weekend which eventually mirrored at nights when we wanted to sleep and some people were having a party until dawn (actually until 7am one morning). The room is nice, warm water was after previous experience welcomed (but it was also 10euro more expensive).. Breakfast was as always in Sri Lanka - toast, egg, fruits, tea.. The staff was helpful..

What we did not enjoy was the cleanness that could have been done much better, AC that was either working or not but never for the needed temperature, so either freezing or nothing at night.. When we got back our laundry, it was clean, but still slightly wet.... And noone asked us for an identification (probably they want to save some money..) All in all, the location was great to the beach, very close, we would recommend it to people who love a nightlife and I guess we could have come back next time, but not for the weekend since I am not much into using earplugs when sleeping..

Good location for party people

The best aspect of this property is it's proximity to the beach, but cleanliness standards are lacking, as is any level of service.  We stayed for four nights in early November and price was high for the area - we had intermittent warm water, no room cleaning at all, had to ask several times for toilet paper, for clean,dry towels (which are stained and threadbare) and for the garbage can to be emptied.  Mosquito nets had holes in them, and one actually fell from the ceiling during the night.  The AC is hit or miss, and the one-speed ceiling fan would occasionally oscillate pretty crazily.  The wi-fi was also unreliable.  The location is good, with nice restaurants and beach across the street, but there are many options for accommodations in the area, and a new 200+ hotel being constructed right behind Sonri.

Not impressed

We spent two days here during Christmas and the first impression was very poor. We had two rooms where one was OK as such, but the second room in the small houses in the back was dirty, missed sheets and other basic things. As a backpacker/surfer/party hotel I take it does the trick if you are not too picky with hygiene. 

The room with bathroom in question have obviously not been properly cleaned for a while, as there were some mould and "unclassified" dirt. Mould was also found on the fridge. Very poor sound insulation, one could hear a zipper on a suitcase in the next floor. The close location to the good Unawatuna beach, that are great, brings my score up to two. The staff was normally friendly. And yes they do take credit cards even if the claim not to at the start. 

Families be aware, backpackers go ahead.
