Great location right on the beach. The rooms are fine and the swimming pool (also beachfront) is nice and relaxing. I think the location is the best part though. Surf break just right infront and the main break just a short stroll to the right, the turtle and snorkling area a short stroll to the left. Freindly hotel manager!

Great location in Hikkaduwa

A small cozy hotel with clean apartments right by the ocean. There is a bit of dampness in the rooms, but luckily no fungus, which is quite uncommon of hotels situated near the ocean. They serve fresh breakfasts, and most of the staff is friendly (however, some of the kitchen staff should pay attention to what kind of omelette clients order for breakfast😉).
A specific trait of the hotel is that here lives a dog - a golden retriever owned by someone from the staff. So dog lovers would enjoy this place especially😃
The general impression of the hotel is very good.

A nice 3* by Sri Lankan rate

Nippon Villa is a nice place to stay due to the following reasons:
1) Firstly, we had a room on the 2nd floor with an ocean view. It is a really charming view and unforgettable sound of the Indian Ocean. The bed is a good one, with a romantic baldachin which saves from some mosquitoes and creates a peaceful and unusual atmosphere in the room. So, a sleep is a long, deep and just amazing. 
2) I really liked the stuff so much. I would like to specify such members of the hotel's team as Anjana, Pasindu, a big ginger dog Duke :))  Anjana is a reception manager who is very attentive, may help with any question, solves any issues, gives good and true recommendations as well as life hacks, truly share a local experience. Btw, Anjana has a very good command of English. So, definitely, you will have very interesting conversations with him as a manager and as a local. He is a very reliable and helpful hotel's member. It is also important to underline, this guy is a pleasant and smiling person.
Pasindu is a hotel's member from the kitchen. He is also very attentive and cooks very well. I enjoyed his omelettes so much.
A dog Duke is an enchanting nice dog. We all loved her soo much and met dawns on the beach together ! :)

We felt so much joy and were truly happy to stay there. I am very grateful to the Nippon Villa Staff! We will definitely come back soon again.

An amazing place to stay, attentive and pleasant staff

For $95 per night this place is a dump.  All the reviews saying this is a good deal, they don’t know what does $100 per night get you. Mostly Russians in the hotel.  Room with four poster bed and mosquito net on website looks nice in pictures.  Bathroom in that room is filthy.  Whole place stinks and even has a stinky dog.  Doesn’t look like he is taken care of or cleaned.  Ponds are full of gunk. Bathrooms are falling apart, showers are dirty.  Why does Sri Lankan government have this place open. You can do better by paying same or a bit more just two places down. We left after one night to resort for $120.  Even the beach is rocky and sand is grainy.  Pool is filthy.  Gutters drain right into the pool. Breakfast is nothing worth close to $95.  Did I say this place is filthy.  Moldy.

Filthy place

It is a complete scam, you pay 10 times more for something 10 times worse, the pictures on booking.com are not reality AT ALL, after entering the building we immediately asked if we could cancel the booking but we couldn’t although it is inhumane to stay in this place (even if it would’ve costed a third of what it did) . We got our room, a cloud of mold and piss smell hit us, barely day light in the room, only tiny milk glass windows so you can’t look out, moist air, the aircondition is so loud that you can’t sleep at night, there were blood stains on the wall that looked like someone was smearing blood into the wall with their hands, the water stinks so much that even after using the toilet you consider not washing your hands cause you feel even dirtier, the shower was slimy, there were milk glass windows to the corridor so the light from the corridor lightened up our room at night and we couldn’t do anything about that, the pool is the nastiest thing I have ever seen, it looks slimy and the water is not clear, the beach looks like a beach in Mallorca full of umbrellas, not natural at all, crowded and touristy, the „private beach“ is 10m of beach where you can’t enter the water cause it’s all reef and we got warned about seaurchins, a bad vibe on the beach and in the hotels, no surfing close to the hotel, it’s a Place for Russian and German families, if you are looking for good vibes, surfing and a chill atmosphere you are wrong here. The breakfast was very poorly compared to other breakfasts we had, tiny slices of fruit, a plain omelette, bad tea and bad coffee, juice was nice though. But 10$ for two people for that?? Again the pictures on booking.com misled us as they were showing an awesome buffet. The cleaning ladies are kind of friendly too, but it is not at all a family - business vibe there, very impersonal. The nights before we paid 30€ together for a fresh room with a huge bed from which you could view the sea through a big window, balcony, with awesome breakfast, a surfspot directly in front of our house, not touristy, the kindest staff ever there, the friendliest beach dogs and I cried when we had to leave this awesome place with awesome people. And i cried when we saw the room in Nippon Villa for my boyfriends and my last night together before we continue our long distance relationship. I had big hopes for this place but it was below everything I would have expected. For god‘s sake please don’t go here, it’s a scam and you find WAY better places for less than half of the money.

For gods sake - don’t go there!

Stayed st Nippon Villad after booking on line, arrived late , but the room was horrendous, the mattress was so lumpy and sagged so badly I couldn’t sleep. The towels had not been washed and smelt. The electrics were hanging off the wall and the ceiling looked like it would fall down. The bathroom rusty and dirty, toilet seat falling off. The breakfast was a bum fight with not enough tables for customers. Booked out and moved to another hotel

Bad room

Perfect location for beach lovers, as this hotel is on the beach! With a swimming pool, for those who prefer to swim in safety.  The rooms are adequate, although you might have to do a spot of cleaning yourself to start off with, but if you say you are not happy about a certain thing, the wonderful staff will do their best to rectify your issue!  We had a whole month here this February and we have booked to go again in 2019!  We can’t wait to see the lovely staff and owners, and Duke the resident dog,  and all their happy faces.  There are a multitude of different restaurants around, both beach side and off road, also plenty to do for the young at heart.  As you step out onto the beach, you go left for the surfing, and right for the more protected swimming area within the coral rocks, also a snorkeling paradise with turtles and tropical fish in abundance.  I recommend having good beach shoes, as the coral is a bit sharp on naked feet!!  We have been to Hikkaduwa 12 times now, next year 13 times! So yes, you can say we love this part of paradise.

Great place to enjoy Hikkaduwa

This March we stayed at this lovely hotel for second time and for sure, we will use it for our next trip to Sri Lanka! Great location, comfortable rooms and wonderful people! Room was great, with private balcony, good air conditioning, big bathroom.Restaurant and pool near the ocean it is something magical! Just imagine - how great is to start your day with breakfast in this lovely place, listening to the ocean waves and enjoying the variety of European and local dishes and fresh juices! Hotel staff is more than friendly, they let you feel yourself home far far away from your home. Director is always on place always eager to assist hotel guests. And many thanks for Anusha, hotel manager and other colleagues, they always made our day just with their kind smiles.

Feeling home away from home!

The Nippon gives you every thing you would expect for the price of the hotel. It's an amazing location and the staff are second to none and can't do enough for you. It was my third visit and I would happily go back again.
