We stayed there for one night. It was pouring rain so we got off the car as this was right on way to Ella City Center. The lady host showed us a room that was shabby to begin with. Used towels used soap(as it was wrapped with hair probably from the previous boarder) and musty smell. Molds is it!! Could be... above the ceilings with so much rain and no treatments. When requested to change those..she of course did it but with an attitude uttering words in Tamil or Singhala..we couldn't figure. It was quite clear she wasn't happy with our request. 
Diseased street dogs and stray cats are probably fed by the host..freely wondering around and coming up to the rooms. We didn't had a choice to look around in that pouring rain so decided to check in thinking it was just a night. Later when the rain stopped we went to the town center for some supper. 

In the middle of the night my wife all of a sudden jumped up on her side of the bed. I woke up too asking what happened. She complained some thing crawled over her. Turning on the light we noted a breed of large  cockroaches running around the floor some even climbing up the bed.  Scary. We kept the lights on and couldn't sleep the rest of the night. They said there's internet but none. When we asked for...they gave us a password from the neighboring guest house internet whose signals are strong to cover their property. Seemed quite  unethical. Not very many guests will note that as the names were kind of similar. The breakfast was just blant with dry bread like leather and over ripe bananas. Now these are all additional price including separate charge for tea coffee and drinking water. After we checked out from this nightmare and checked in at another local inn, we found my phone charger, a suitcase lock and a small purse with some rainy day travel money all are missing from my bag. We were out for a short time for dinner and these things grew legs while we were away to walked out by themselves. And yes our doors were locked. So you figure and make your determination.  I just had to share my experience regardless of all the good reviews you may read from other backpackers. I am sure the owners would respond with a very defensive response and they have to. After all its their business. Ofcourse they have to cash in on the feel good comments  that we all read and make our choices. But then how many spends the time to share and write the fact in details. I have nothing against the owners but to hide my experince without sharing would be an injustice to my fellow travellers. Of course its your choice  But then why take a chance. You have plenty of better choices in and around town in that price range.

Simply Avoid. Cockroaches!!! Plenty of them.

Clean, basic rooms about 15 to 20 minutes walk from Main Street. 

No fridge, microwave or television. No air conditioning, but has pedestal fan. Fiddly hot water system in my room. 

Comfortable bed, and has a mosquito net. 

Take a torch if exploring, as not many street lights, if exploring.

Basic rooms to fit a tight budget

Very good place cleanliness, hospitality, humanity everything was soo good ...i got a complimentary morning tea ...even when we faced some problem from outside also they helped us....best place ever .. for this price ...

Best hospitality

Me and my friend stayed here for a night and absolutely loved it. The hosts were kind, the room was clean, the bathroom well kept, and the food is homemade. We felt at home and comfortable. Would highly recommend for budget stay in beautiful Ella. 

Lovely place to stay 

Clean rooms, comfortable beds, warm family. This was perfect place for us to stay in Ella. A bit off the main road, quiet with a beautiful view from the porch. Amazing home cooked meals. Reasonably priced! 

Best homestay in Ella! 

This homestay was just average really. I feel as though it was quite expensive for what it was as we had paid less and got more elsewhere. The room was quite small and the bathroom wasn't that clean. The hosts were nice until we got our laundry done for 2000rs and found it the next day strewn across the dirty roof. When we asked them not to put our clothes on the roof they laughed at us and when my partner got annoyed we found ourselves with a basket of wet clothes and some very angry Sri Lankan's. So, stay here by all means just don't get your laundry done here... The food and coffee in the restaurant next door is great and really well priced. The wifi works fine. They offer you tea on arrival. The location is good as it's a bit off the main road. 

So I booked online using booking.com. When I turned up they said they didn't have my booking and no rooms left. They took us to a different guest house and I was very thankful because I needed a room. This sounds OK right? But the same thing happened to the two people staying next to me. Then when I checked out it just so happened that the girl checking in after me had also booked at rustle hill but had been directed to forest guest house (don't remember exact name) . 

Anyway it's odd
