We ended our tour in Sri lanka at the coco bay hotel, lovely and friendly staff. Very nice rooms overlooking the private beach and big bathrooms  including a Jacuzzi 😍. Food was amazing i had for lunch mixed seafood platter that i will forever remember. This hotel is the best to relax by the beach too after that long travels to visit the highlights of sri lanka 😉. Also it is very close to Galle Forte and Mirissa for whale watching.

Best hotel to relax by the beach

We were expecting basic accommodation but not quite as basic as it turned out to be! We arrived on Sunday afternoon after a 4 hour drive from Kandy. There was no one around and eventually our taxi driver managed to find one of the two lads who run the place. He pointed to our room and gave us a key. As we approached we noticed that the window of our room had a hole in it which looked very much like it had been used for target practice! Once inside we eventually managed to work out how the air conditioning unit worked and settled in, still having not really seen anyone to say hello or ask any questions. We also discovered that the safe didn’t work and we were unable to close the bathroom windows to stop insects coming in. We finally met someone when we came back from our evening meal after having to ask our neighbours to show us how to lock the door. On returning from our evening meal we also discovered there was no hot water and this was also the case the following morning. 

At breakfast the next day we asked if our safe could be fixed and if we could get hot water and were assured this would be sorted. We asked a further 2 times and each time we were told it would be fixed - needless to say we had no hot water the entire week we were there and I had to carry our valuables about with me all the time, which meant that we could not go swimming together as someone had to have the bag at all times. 

Despite having a notice on the door so you can ask for your room to be made up this was ignored and our room was untouched throughout the week. We eventually got clean towels but had to ask for them. We also got to make friends with the local wildlife in the form of 4 cockroaches who had taken up residence in our bathroom!

On a more positive note breakfasts were very nice, fresh fruit, eggs, toast and something traditional, such as coconut roti, fruit juice and plenty of tea or coffee. It was also our wedding anniversary whilst we were there and we awoke to find our balcony had been decorated with balloons and our breakfast was served to us there. We were also presented with a special cake. It is a real shame that this level of thoughtfulness was not applied to the accommodation.

We really enjoyed our time there. We acutally spent a lot of time at the beach lol. We did not eat there so I cannot say however breakfast was good.

Great Hotel

We arrived to Coco Bay since we had an issue with another hotel reservation.
The place was basic and clean, the AC was fine.
The real surprise was with the breakfast, they prepared something filled with coconut. It was delicious!
An interesting thing is that Arugam bay was impacted by the Tsunami, but it seems that the place were this place is located was not impacted since it is on a hill. Take it into account...

Clean and nice !

Location is nice near a popular beach, just 5 min walking distance. It’s just a shame that the owners don’t make an effort to fix up the place. When we arrived the manager warned us that the toilet was leaking water so we had to shut off the water after every flush. You’d think that during our 3 day stay someone would have come to fix it but none of that. The closet was broken and fixed up with tape. A baseboard was falling off the wall. A light switch and a lamp also broken. The bathroom windows were dirty and there were footsteps on the floor.
There’s a do not disturb sign that you can hang on the door knob, on the other side it says please make up room. However the manager told us they do not make up rooms during your stay!
On the positive side the beds were comfortable, there’s AC, the breakfast is good, and they give you free bottled water.

Lazy owners 

I stayed at Coco Bay recently, the room was fine and had good air con with a good shower. There were a lot of ants in the bathroom but that is slightly to be expected in Sri Lanka and it didn't bother us too much. The best thing about the stay was the manager who bent over backwards to accomodate all our needs. He came back from dinner especially to give us a towel when we had a spillage and gave us a reduced rate as the 'please make up my room' sign was missed. He also cooked us breakfast at 11am on the day of departure despite breakfast ending at 10am! We were very grateful.

Very Helpful Management

Booked this hotel on a very short notice. Rooms are basic but very clean and conveniently 2 minutes walking to the beach. Manager and staff are very nice. You can book surf lessons with Kennan the surf instructor. There is no TV which I honestly didn’t mind. The main street with surf shops and restaurants are 10 minutes walking which I preferred because you are far from the busy street and noises. I will def come back.

Lovely place with great service. Deffinatly the best breakfast we've had on Sri Lanka. Would love to come back - only con was, that we apparently came in the off-season, so there was nothing to do in town, which was quite sad.

The rooms are fairly basic but based on the reasonable price, great value for money. The breakfast was great. The service was extremely good. The location is ideal as not far from the beach or main area of restaurants, but far enough away to be quiet at night

Great value for money

Well run guesthouse with 5 cabana style rooms. Our room was slightly worse as it was closer to the communal area. The family and staff were very obliging and provided free coffee and tea. Very good included breakfast with pancakes or Sri Lankan speciality. Rooms have good wifi, ensuite bathroom with shower and hot water and large bed with nice bedding. Guesthouse is not on the beach but a convenient few minutes walk to beach and restaurants. Nice beach but not a lot to do in Arugam Bay out of season.
