We had such a fantastic time at the Manor.  We absolutely love it there—the gardens, the restaurant, and the overall atmosphere. It truly feels like home from home, and the staff are always so welcoming and attentive. We also adore how peaceful Montpellier is, with its beautiful gardens and surroundings

Peaceful and Relaxing

This is our second visit to Montpellier but we have visited Tulbagh on several occasions. We often went to Montpellier for a tasting etc but were reluctant to book accommodation because of the lowish rating however we are so glad that we have stayed a second time and have already booked a short stay next year. I don't know what they put in the water here and of course that water ends up in the wine but it is such an uplifting place that it enables you to locate the best of yourself. Montpellier will not be to everyone's liking as it's not modern and lacks many of the western world basics but it's charm, individualism and great service win you over, I hope it doesnt plan to reinvent itself. 
Tulbagh is a lovely area less hustle and bustle than some with enough going on within a relatively small area so no major drives necessary. We only had two nights this time and visited a couple of wine farms, the Oakhurst Olive Farm (beautiful) with olive tasting (who would have thought) luckily not large measures but very interesting. Antionette at Art de Tionette in the main street in Tulbagh is a character and worth a visit.
Can't wait to return to Montpellier, it's  the only place I know that does cheese platters with beef sausage and biltong included.
Staff are great, ask Leon to give you a cellar tour, the man is all energy.

It just gets better!

We arrived at Montpellier quite late at 7 pm. Marica and Hennie waited for our arrival. We were welcomed and orientated around the property. We decided to book the Treehouse accommodation as this was unique. What a lovely surprise to find our stay clean, comfortable and with all the amenities you can expect even though you are suspended a couple of meters above the ground.
The views are absolutely breathtaking. A word of warning this choice is not for people with young children or if you suffer from vertigo. 
All the staff were so friendly and warm, the breakfast was tasty and the coffee great!
We loved it and will be visiting again.

Montpellier overnight

Montpellier Wine Estate in Tulbagh provides excellent Service and beautiful, rustic and clean guestrooms located on a working Wine Farm. The staff is very friendly and accommodating and it was a great pleasure staying there. Keep it up!

Excellent Service!

Had a wonderful experience here at the tasting centre next to the glass house.  When we arrived, we weren't sure where to go, but it just kept saying "Follow the music", so we walked through the forest as if we were in an Alice in Wonderland script, and we found a small restaurant and asked where to go and they said, just follow the music, so we did.  

And wow, we found this magical tasting centre with a great guy serving us in the middle of nowhere, so it seemed.  He was quite amazing telling us the stories of the bubbly and very generous with the tastings.

Such a beautiful venue .

Quirky but fabulous bubbly tasting

The venue is beautiful! We loved our room and the facilities. The service, restaurant and garden is amazing. We stayed in the Farmyard rooms. Only 2 things that bothered us. The parking area was covered in mud and we were worried that our car might get stuck or that our shoes might get ruined. We had to park on the grass to avoid the mud and then discovered that another car parked us in and we couldn't get out without them leaving. Also, the Farmyard rooms are right next to the worker's courters where they dress to get ready or leave for work. They were so loud! We wanted to take a nap before our event on Saturday and we couldn't because they were so noisy. And then they woke us up on Sunday morning very early being extremely loud. 

Our stay at Montpellier

We recently visited Montpellier for a wedding and while there we stayed in one of the Manor House rooms. Montpellier's natural beauty is mesmerizing with big gardens, lawns and even a mini forest spread around the property. The Manor House is an old Cape Dutch house with a similar, yet slightly more modern, design on the inside, and our room was comfortable and spacious enough for two people. It is good to note that the bathrooms within the manor house are not all en-suite, some of the rooms have to share bathrooms so it's a better option for friends or family travelling together. They also have a nice pool that blends into the surroundings for those hot summer days. Something that my wife and I really enjoyed was walking around in the gardens with the highlight being the forest area, as it really made us feel relaxed and forget about that daily hustle-and-bustle. At Montpellier they have a Deli / Curio shop, Restaurant and Wine Tastings (reviewed separately) so you are definitely going to be entertained while there. The wedding ceremony was held in a quaint chapel, with amazing views of the surrounding Tulbagh Mountain ranges and vineyards, and the reception was held outside on the lawns next to the forest which was mesmerizing. It is good to note that they have various venue options to choose from to suite different styles and weather conditions (if you are looking for a wedding destination). There are also several other accommodation options available on the property. During our stay there were however a couple of things that I think management can look at improving. As we stayed in the manor house, which is also open to the public, I recommend there be someone frequently available at the reception area. Also, I recommend that house staff ensure that toilet paper in the bathrooms are restocked every morning and evening without guests having to ask. Finally, just as an added bonus, I recommend they supply a bottle of water for each guest in the room, as not everyone is comfortable drinking the tap water. Above all these things, we still had a great time and think this is a good option from which you can explore Tulbagh, or where you can host a wedding.
