Tanuli Royal Plains Motel

We are an Aussie couple in our 70's, have just spent 10 days at Tanuli Royal Plain Motel and loved our time there. Our room & ensuite were clean with plenty of hot water in shower, lovely big fluffy towels, very comfortable queen bed. Air-con, fan all worked well, though fan a bit noisy. Our room also had fridge, tea/coffee making gear, closet, desk & 1 armchair We were in Room 115.There is a communal kitchen, which we used every morning for breakfast and also a communal lounge area, if you just have to watch TV or keep up with the world outside. There was a TV in the room, but we never turned it on. There is Small shop across the road, which stocks the basic of foods, but nearest café is about 3km away. We ate out for lunch & found a good selection of places. We always had good coffee (a must have) at various places. For dinner, we just had crackers/cheese, the latter can be found at the Bulk Shop, fruit from the Honiara Markets & a wine from Sullivans at approx. AUD$12 per bottle or up. Taxis work on the rate of SBD$10 per km (about AUD$1.70) and we found they didn't try to rip you off. The taxi drivers always knew where our motel was, so we never had to try & guide them, thankfully. Local buses are up the dirt road, a few minutes walk away, they are much cheaper at SBD$3 per person, (about 50 cents)but do make sure you have right change or close to it. The staff at Tanuli were just fantastic, so friendly and helpful. Nelson, the manager took us on a tour out of Honiara at a good price, compared to tour groups, you need to talk to him about this. The girls are simply gorgeous, nothing was too much trouble and their English was pretty good, so no problems with communications. It's a great place to feel like you are living with a Solomon Islander family and we will certainly be staying there again, price for room also very reasonable. They will also arrange to do an airport shuttle service, but this must be arranged prior.
