It was amazing!! An unforgettable experience! a) the resort is beautiful, great comfy beds, large room, great food, great hosts; b) the safari and the Lion walk are definitely worthwhile! I want to go back!!

UNFORGETTABLE EXPERIENCE

What an absolutely amazing place Fathala Wildlife Reserve is, we ventured out of our Riu Hotel and traveled 4 hours to get to this place....
And we were not disappointed, everything about this place is rock star treatment but with the utmost respect for the animals on the Reserve...
The moment you arrive at the hotel you are treated like royalty, through the check in process and then while being shown around your room.
The whole process is very easy and everyone here is so professional and considerate.
The management take the time to talk to each and every one at the hotel and it was a real pleasure to see, and that's coming from someone who doesn't like to talk.
The rooms are amazing especially considering your location, in the middle of the reserve.
And sitting on your verander in the afternoon looking at the animals visiting the watering hole was just breath taking.
The walking with Lions experience was also truly amazing, the guides were brilliant and you could see the love they had for these lions was so sincere. There are lots of Do's and don't buy to be honest they all made sense. I would say however that there are a small number of lockers if needed before you do the walk which we weren't aware of but this didn't matter as we were only stopping down the road actually on the reserve anyway.
Some may think or say it's slightly out of their price range but trust me when I say it is certainly worth stretching that little extra for, you will not be disappointed.
This place is truly a 'YOU MUST VISIT' in your lifetime sort of place / experience.
I have soo many photos of the 2 days spent here but this place is a must visit if you're in Senegal or Gambia, you will not be disappointed, I promise....
If you contact them they will also arrange pick up and drop off, we were 200km+ away and they managed to arrange collecting us on time and dropping us back hassle free and all paid at check out (minus the booking deposit).
Honestly, trust me, this place has to be visited...


Fantastic Fathala 

Fathala offers a unique experience in the sabana. It allows to connect with nature by sounding time in the sabana and watching wild animals. From the restaurant to the rooms and establishment everything of an excellent quality. 
The hotel offers a variety of activities to explore nature. From observing lion cubs to safaris and spending a day in a private island. The only thing that I would recommend to the hotel is to offer binoculars to the tourist who do the bush walking (bird safari). The birds can’t really be seen well without binoculars.

Unique experience in the Sabana

Although described as luxury accommodation I would say it was adequate. Looking a bit tatty in some areas , especially the furniture. 
Outside showers too which certainly didn’t make it feel luxurious… 
The staff were as helpful as they could be…just the management was a bit frustrating at times. We were unable to exchange sterling for local currency on the day we needed it!! And although it was advertised as taking cash or card for drinks we were unable to use cash!! Confusion about whether wine was sold by the glass or by the bottle. 
The Fathala Lodge vehicle that collected us from the ferry having travelled from The Gambia was shocking. Incredibly tatty , the internal back seat armrest was falling off, the padding was coming away and the speedometer wasn’t working. It really didn’t fit the ‘luxury’ label. The vehicle was sent to pick up 4 people and luggage and it was a bit of a squeeze. 
The vehicles used for the safaris were adequate. The drivers and the guides were helpful and knowledgeable. The variety of animals was disappointing… we saw 4 species of Antelope, giraffes, zebras , warthogs , water buffalo and a couple of species of monkeys. Lots of birds. There is one rhino on the reserve. If you were hoping to see big cats or larger numbers of animals you would be disappointed. 
The toilets on some of the trips out are disgusting so be warned! Take hand wipes and sanitizer. 
Despite the review we did enjoy the holiday but wouldn’t go back and with some tweeks it could have been a less frustrating experience

Fathala Lodge review.

The resort is great for families and couples. The efforts of staff were friendly and welcoming with chilled beverages upon arrival. There are hotels and campements nearby and perhaps more affordable, however, the glam camping experience at Fathala was appreciated by my family. However, elevating the experiences of return guests should be a priority of management, especially when renovations are taking place and dust and guests are inconvenienced. As a return visitor (third time) I believe the proper gesture is to provide a complimentary meal or "It is with great pride you have returned to Fathala, Walking with Pride or NARNIA BUSINESS,..." t-shirt as a gesture of goodwill. I look forward to witnessing culinary and facility improvements in the future.

It's Narnia Business

Very quiet location in the middle of the park. Luxury tents with a view of nature, also directly from the bed. Ideal for wildlife watching. Very kind and friendly staff. Stylish ambience. Large breakfast buffet and excellent meals. You don't see as many animals as in Bandia Park, as it is more sparsely populated. Only the attendants of the Lion walk are a quite unfriendly and it is in some ways a tourist photo tour, but an exciting experience anyway.

Hidaway in the bush

We had the most amazing time at the lodge.  The accommodation is great, considering you are in the middle of the reserve.  The staff are wonderful; attentive, friendly and so helpful.  The activities that we took part in (game drive, bush walk, lion walk, island visit) were all fantastic and have left us with some of our best ever holiday memories.  Huge thanks to Juanita and her staff who made our visit very special.  We will be returning!

Amazing Holiday

I’d like to give them 10 stars if possible!
If you are visiting the reserve for a day trip and heading back the same day after the safari YOU ARE MISSING OUT! I don’t want to ruin the surprise but dinner time was an unexpected unforgettable experience.
The rooms are phenomenal, the staff beyond helpful and really a magical place in the world.

We loved our stay here, we were on a half board basis. Tent was just perfect a real wow contained everything needed for a restful stay.  Great food and service, a place to rest too! We booked several excursions but our two favourites were the island day trip with the wonderful guide Gerry and our bush walk with Mammadu who could call the birds in and was very knowledgeable.
We knew not to expect lots of animals but we were pleased to see what we did. The journey to the lodge added an extra dimension crossing the river Gambia on the local ferry as a foot passenger. 
Would recommend others to visit, after all it’s only a short fight from the UK to Gambia and it took us 1 hour 30 mins travel time including the boarder crossing from our hotel in Gambia to the Lodge.

Worth a Visit!

We had a 4 night stay here in between a 3 night stay at the Mandina River Lodges and Leo’s in The Gambia. The combination made for a perfect holiday.

Fathala has beautiful accommodation and provides a little adventure if you want a bit more than just lying on the beach. We had a deluxe tent and this contained everything we needed eg tea/coffee making facilities, bath, outdoor shower, hot tub and also included a hair dryer. The Wi-Fi is a bit hit and miss but that’s probably not a bad thing if you really want to chill and make the most of your experience.

I see the comments about the wildlife but I think if you accept this is not East or South Africa. It’s a nature reserve in West Africa - there are giraffe, antelope, one rhino, monkeys, zebras, warthogs and some wonderful bird life. There is a water hole outside the lodge and many of the animals will come visit at dusk which is lovely.

We went out on a late afternoon game drive, two morning bush walks and a day out to a village and BBQ on a beautiful island. Our favourite time was the bush walks - never knowing what you’d see and continued learning about nature, cultures etc from our guide, Mammadu - he was brilliant.  We didn’t bother with the lion walk as it’s not really our thing, preferring to see lions in their natural habitat.

We would totally recommend this part of our holiday. The ferry and border crossing from The Gambia was yet another experience to elevate this trip from a ‘normal’ holiday.
