Auberge Le Poulagou

For more than 5 years, the Poulagou is my favorite choice when staying in Dakar. It's an oasis in the lively Yoff Tonghor neighbourhood: clean, safe and relaxed. Fine rooms situated around a beautiful green garden and located nearby the airport. A perfect base to visit the various beaches, bars and restaurants in the neighbourhoods of Yoff, Ngor and Almadies. Staff is multi-langual, friendly and warm. Meet Khalil who impersonates barman, waiter, dj, comedien, psychologist and dakar-by-night connaisseur in one. With his positive energy he can really give your Dakar visit a boost and make your stay at Poulagou unforgettable.

I was there year 2014 when it was frizing cold in Ankara.Hostel is by the see side and fish market.Owner and staf was realy kind .Fish which they cooked for me was delicious.I like to visit again.By the way they have bar aswell and nice small garden.And they picked me from airport too. Thanks for everthing guys.

Ask for what you want and you will get it if its possible.

Ideal base for exploring Dakar

Nice Place

Near to airport ,clean, fair and friendly.

Positive: 
Affordable
Close to the beach, although where the fishermen work
Nice staff
They could buy us cheap lunch from the market for 1000 CFA instead of paying 4000 CFA for it from the restaurant.

Negative:
Sad Wifi, depending on who else is using it.
The staff and other people liked to talk near our room. The walls are thin and they kept on talking in the yard. Very oud as it is a closed surrounding.
The mosque nearby woke us up everyday at 5 am, and 14, and 16 and so on. Not worth it.
Bad water pressure in the shower.
A person lived on the roof of the hotel, did not know who that was.
Again, they do not mention the closeness of the mosque in the nearby activities. I like to decide when I wake up, not some false god praising.

Nice but with a lot of downers.

I stayed at Auberge Le Poulagou for a week. It is an average hostel to stay in and I guess it is somewhat acceptable enough for a hostel. I moved to another hostel I discovered thereafter known as Auberge Le Palace, which has rooms of better quality and for the same price as Le Poulagou.

Pros: 
1. It is relatively cheaper than most.

2. The staff are very friendly and helpful especially Mahmoud the manager who I dealt with in the UK before leaving for Senegal. On arrival, I met another manager Khalil who was also helpful.

3. They have hot water. The bathrooms are quite spacious.

Cons:
1. There is an insane number of flies that constantly swarm around. There is a fishy smell which always floats around the hostel area but that isn't so terrible to bear. The issue with the flies as well as ants is rather intolerable as the flies get under the door and enter the room in their numbers. Sleeping with the constant buzzing of flies in your ears can be a major irritation.

2. It is located in a village and the environment is not very clean. It is also quite far from Dakar's City Centre/ Downtown Dakar.

3. The incessant planes that fly above the hostel particularly late at night and during early mornings can seriously be bothersome. There are also loud ongoing prayers that occur outside the hostel as early as 6am which I could hear every morning in my room.

4. No television in the rooms. The WiFi was also relatively slow and had a below average connection in the room.

5. For 4000CFA, the food sold at the restaurant was rather pricey.
