I've been travelling around Europe for many years and I've never felt so harmly and kindly welcomed as here. Apart from the fascinating fact (from the historical point of view) that this was one of the villas Ceaucescu had for protocol, Gheorge, Aura and Maria are the most excellent hosts you could ever meet. They constantly look after you in such a pampering way you feel you want to stay here for ever enjoying the feastful breakfasts and dinners in the terrace, the huge room we stayed at and the extraordinary tour around the house that Aura gave us. After a month in Romania this was definitely the best experience we had. Thank you Gheorghe for the delicious pears, thank you Aura and Maria for your kindness and the warmth of your goodbye hugs. It's been incredible!!!!  

If you go to Suceava, stay here for sure!

Stayed here for two nights while visiting the Bucovina Monasteries.  Even though I am a history buff, it was lost on me until I arrived that this is the former vila of Nicolae Ceacescu.  So that made it unique all by itself.   And as some previous reviewers have pointed out, the place has a 1970’s vibe to it (I believe the property was built in 1969), but that adds to its charm. But what gives the Casa de Oaspeti the 5-star rating is its staff.  The owner, Georghe, is a warm and friendly host who is genuinely interested in the comfort of his guests.  But the star of the show is Maria, who is the most attentive hostess you will ever encounter.  She is the cook, she is the server, she is the receptionist, and I believe she does all of the housekeeping, as well.  She will also try and play the role of porter, lugging my 50-pound bag up the stairs after I told her not to!  There is literally nothing she doesn’t do and nothing she won’t do to make your stay as comfortable as possible.   The food at the property was more than plentiful and excellent in quality.  Be aware that both Maria and Georghe speak no English, so brush up on your Romanian or have the Google Translate app at your fingertips.  Made the experience that much more fun.  Also note that Google Maps initially sent us way north of the town to a different address.  Double check the location prior to navigating your way in.  It is in a wooded area south of the fortress.   Loved our stay here and would stay here again when in town.

Built by Ceausescu, this guest house has huge bedrooms and amazing shared spaces. The beds were comfortable and the bathrooms spacious.  Very friendly and welcoming atmosphere and the staff could not have been more charming, and despite our lack of Romanian we were able to communicate when face to face. The terrace for dinner was peaceful and secluded and the food was very good. 

A unique guest house with amazing architecture and history

This guest house has very few TripAdvisor reviews, perhaps because it is registered as a B&B / Inn rather than a hotel, though it features more prominently on Booking.com which is where we came across it. We had a particular personal reason to want to visit Suceava and needed to stay in the town. Casa de Oaspeti has a great location on a tree - clad hill slightly above the town but with easy access to it. The house was Ceausescu's former residence in the area and was built in 1969. As you would expect it is lavishly furnished with particularly attractive carved wood, the interior preserved unchanged from the time it was built.

The house is owned by a lovely and hospitable Romanian couple who let out a few of the rooms, I think probably only five, so it is very quiet. I should say that they speak not a word of English, so we had to get by with my cousin's Romanian language app and a lot of sign language! The rooms were frankly enormous, as beautifully furnished as the public areas, and fully equipped with air conditioning and WiFi. Bathrooms were equally enormous (shower rather than bath). Everything was spotlessly clean.

The lady who served in the restaurant (where we were the only diners on two of the three nights) was just delightful and attentive, again without a word of English spoken! Breakfast was very good and absolutely enormous; we were six but there was enough food for at least sixteen! The dinner menu of home cooked food was large, perhaps inappropriately so for the number of guests catered for, and I'd particularly mention the sweet cheese pancakes for desert which were wonderful and one portion was enough for at least three people.

As we were leaving the owners kindly showed us Ceausescu's personal rooms, including an underground meeting room where Brezhnev and others had sat. Because so few rooms are let you may be the only guests in residence, which will make you feel like the house guests in a spacious private home. For three of us in two rooms the bill came to just over £150 per night for dinner, bed and breakfast which is really quite extraordinary. In fact overall this is one of the most extraordinary places I have ever stayed in. 

I've written an unusually long review to try and do justice to the place but if you do post a question I will try to answer it. If you do visit Suceava (and using it as a base to visit the Painted Monasteries of Bucovina is one good reason) then do stay here if you can.

Extraordinary

For those who are nostalgic, Guest House, is a perfect example for the Ceausescu era. The same is the staff (I think it is the same from that time :) :)). The building and the furniture are old. Maybe those who administer it and want it!!? Here I was ironic :)). However, I recommend it only to those who want to relive those times or those who want to see what was in Ceausescu's time.
