We stayed here for one night and it was beautiful. The view from the window is incredible. The hospitality of the family was so nice and the food was traditional and amazing. We really recommend staying here and explore the beautiful island.

Overnight stay with a perfect view

It was not in our plan but On the island of Taquile we decide to stay ! So we ask at few people from the island if it was possible and they advice us to knock at the door of Felipe. Realy good advice because we realy feel like home. Felipe and his family are kind. The food is good and also the bed. Infusion of munia and coca all day long ! The island is quiet and after the tourism tour we had the island all for us.

Coup de cœur

Forget about commercially organised so called "homestays" on Taquile! Just go to Taquile Sumaq Wasi and stay with Ines and her family, and you'll have the most authentic experience possible.
If you'd like, you can join the family meal in the evening, which I would strongly recommend. (23-28 PEN)
Please note that you're staying in a family home. I strongly encourage you to behave accordingly and be very respectful of the family and their property. 
There are no power sockets in the rooms, but the family are very happy to charge your devices for you. Shower facilities are basic. Everything is very neat and clean. The food is lovely! 
I wouldn't have had it any other way and I loved my stay. I didn't know beforehand that I would be staying this close to the family, I really felt like being their personal guest more than staying in a hotel, and I wish I'd brought some sort of gift.
Felipe, Ines, Eliane and Anali will help you plan and organise your stay so that you can enjoy it as best as possible.

AMAZING Taquile Lodge Hotel Hostel Homestay

The house of Doña Iñez & Felipe is the perfect place to stay on Taquile if you want to get off the beaten tracks. You can actually go there without a reservation and ask local people for the house of Doña Iñez. The family is very active as they grow their own veggetables and look after their 3 sheeps. Just join them in their daily activities to get a feel of what life is on Taquile Island! Doña Iñez is also a really good cook and you will enjoy a homemade dish with veggies from her garden. The place has a basic shower but it counts with hot water, which is really enjoyable. Taquile island receives less overnight visitors than Amantani Island so it really feels like you're the only visitor once the day-tour visitors are gone ; plus, it's a good way to ensure income generation for local Taquile people who don't necessarily enjoy the benefits of tourism on their island. Go and experience!

A simple and authentic experience

Upon arriving to the island, Ines led us to a restaurant with a nice view and the cost for food was 30 soles. The trout was fresh and tasted good but the price is significantly above what I have gathered from my research (20 soles for the same meal). I was okay with that as the view was beautiful and worth the extra 10 soles.

After arriving at Sumaq Wasi, we checked into our room which is located on the first right of the second floor.  Although the room looked clean at first (spiders and other insects are expected), we realized that there was no light in the washroom and there appeared to be faeces on the top of the garbage bin.  On top of this, the lock of our room did not work. Luckily we did not bring much valuables with us as we left most of our luggage with the hotel at Puno.

Dinner costed 20 soles which was quite expensive for vegetable stew with rice. I managed to finish the dish but none of the other visitors finished theirs. At that time I was joking with my fiancé that Ines was thinking like a businessperson and tried to maximize her profit by lowering the cost and quality of the meal.

The experience that gave us a very bad taste was during the morning after, which summarized our stay at Sumaq Wasi. As we had an early afternoon flight at Juliana I've booked a private boat with a tour operator departing the island at 7am. As Ines does not speak English, I have asked the tour operator to coordinate with her prior to the trip so she was fully aware. At 6am, she knocked on our door and explained that since it was election day, no boat was to leave the island until 8:45am. I was surprised by the news as this was never mentioned even from the day before.  However due to our flight from Juliana to Lima was scheduled in early afternoon, I insisted that we need to leave or we would miss our flight.  Ines continued to give different excuses and at one time put us through to an English speaking person on the phone who asked us if we do need to take the boat that we have originally booked.  The person lost interest in speaking to us after I informed him that we have already paid for the private boat and therefore our intention is to get on it.  After showing Ines our reservation with the tour operator and how much we have paid for the private boat, the entire conversation switched to the payment for the homestay.  It was our intention to pay her but at the moment that was the least of our concerns.  After she refused to change the subject back to the boat ride, we ended up paying the homestay fee first so that we can continue with our conversation.  After more arguments and confusions, we decided to not take her advice and head to the port ourselves. We arrived at the port few minutes late and luckily the boat was still waiting for us. It is my guess that Ines was trying to arrange another boat so that she can make more money regardless of the trouble that it may cause us.

Generally it was a terrible experience and I would recommend anyone to stay away.
