Just returned from a visit to Peru including time at Irapay Amazon Lodge. My wife and I traveled with one other couple.  We enjoyed our time at IRApay immensely.  We found the facilities to be clean, food excellent and staff friendly and courteous. 
The resort is on the banks of the Momon River and it was enjoyable to watch the river traffic go by. Our individual cottage was clean and comfortable. The food quality and variety was beyond expectation and we found that even when we told the staff to reduce our portions to half-size, they were oftentimes still too generous. Prices were reasonable.  
We were given exceptional service by our guide Alberto, who spoke excellent English (the only English speaking staff person) and was extremely attentive to our needs.  We also were assisted by Charles who, with Alberto, took us on an evening river tour in search of wildlife and a walking tour of the jungle. Charles was extremely knowledgeable about the plants and, with Alberto as his interpreter, gave us explanations of what they were and what they were used for.
Our trip into the Amazon was a once in a lifetime experience for us and it was fantastic.  As much as we enjoyed the food and amenities of IRApay, we feel that it was Alberto and Charles that made the experience as enjoyable and memorable as it was.  I understand that Alberto recently left IRApay and, in my opinion, that is a major loss for IRApay and future customers.

Amazing Time

When you visit the Amazon you must remember you are in the Amazon, not in a luxury resort in Mexico or the States. The resort was beautiful, on the banks of the Momom river. My husband and I were with 2 other couples we each had our own "cottage" it had a comfortable Queen size bed and a private bath. We only had electric for three hours in the morning and three in the evening. There was no hot water for showers. Remember you are in the middle of the Amazon. The food was really delicious, and the portions huge, we had to tell our guide to have the chef cut our portions in half.
The true gem of our stay was our guide Alberto, he took very good care of us and spoke very good English, I can't say enough good things about him. He was wonderful. He and Charlie took us on a walk though the jungle which was great. Charlie knew all of the plants and showed us what they were, he even dug up some roots that the chef cooked for our lunch. 
The pools were beautiful, complete with a swim up bar. Although Alberto was the only one at the resort who spoke English the entire staff went out of their way to make us feel welcome.

A hidden surprise in the Amazon

I was planned to visit the property in December but given visa issues had the cancel last minute. Not their fault, mine. But the lodge had a cancellation policy that should have awarded me back $1000.  I've been chasing them for 2 months....first, the accounting person is on vacation (I waited), later they only do returns through Paypal (I opened an account), lastly, they stopped ansering... bottom line - they stole $1000 from me and I can't seem to be able to get them to pay it back.  

The workaround....

The property is amazing and we had a wonderful experience. The most memorable part of our trip and what I would recommend for everyone, do at least one tour every day, and I recommend doing two (morning and afternoon). Definitely do the hike if you enjoy the outdoors. Our tour guides, Flavio and Julio, truly made our trip the perfect experience that it was. Flavio’s English is outstanding and both of their personalities and knowledge created many memories. The food is also outstanding. The quality and presentation are definitely on par with luxury experience. I would highly recommend staying here if you have the opportunity.

Amazing

The hotel was okay but we were very disappointed. It is advertised as a “luxury” “all inclusive” hotel but this was not the case. The website advertised multilingual tours but there was only one guide at the resort that spoke English. When we arrived there the man working at the front desk began speaking to us in Spanish, which we could piece together, but when we asked him if he spoke English he said yes but that he didn’t like to. Which is kind of ridiculous. This hotel was not “luxury” in the slightest

Amazon stay

There were no English tour guides when we stayed in the Irapay Amazon Lodge - even though we requested one. The manager didn't seem to care as he placed us on Spanish tours - we went Piranha fishing without understanding a word our guide was speaking. The whole experience would have been an absolute disaster if it wasn't for the one English-speaking waiter, Albert, who volunteered to go on our subsequent tours as a translator. He deserves enormous credit for showing that kind of initiative when his manager (who also spoke some English) didn't seem to care less. Aside from that, the trip itself was very worthwhile. A fantastic way to see the Amazon.

No English Tour Guides

We LOVED our stay at Irapay. From our welcome fruit drink on arrival ( Pity no alcohol in it, after the crazy taxi drive from Iquitos airport to the port... which is not what you’d expect either!) to our bure type room to the freshest meals, good drinks selection and then there’s  fabulous Flávio, the guide. He makes Irapay. A kind, humble young man with excellent English who loves his little part of the world, his jungle. You do not need to book what’s offered on Viator etc... as the hotel offers every tour you need. We were lucky to see the pink dolphins up close on our dawn Amazon boat ride although do not expect a pink “Flipper” from your childhood tv show, these are quite unattractive beasts.  The other great thing is the pool and pool bar. With the humidity and being busy all day it is fabulous to strip off into swimmers and dive into the massive pool, then a beer and G and T😀.Very child friendly hotel too, pool especially good depth for all and the cleanest water I’ve ever seen, considering 50m away is the dark brown river. The meals were all diverse and fruit so fresh. You pay for lunch and dinner/drinks but breakfast included. Please stay here you will NOT regret it. Tips: 30 sol taxi to port then 40 sol boat to Irapay, about 20 minutes. You will be hounded by taxi drivers outside the airport so book a transfer.

Wonderful oasis in the Amazon Jungle

Overall our stay was nice the lodges themselves were well appointed and comfortable. The real issue we had was finding someone who spoke English. Only one of the tour staff and one of the waiters could speak English no one on reception could help us anytime we made an enquiry, which was really frustrating and also no money is kept at reception, so if you needed change for tips no one could help you.
The food was good and Alberto the only English speaking waiter was very accommodating making sure everyone was catered to accordingly and they could really do with him being on reception staff.
Flavio and Charlie on the tours could not have been more accommodating and really tried to make our experiences memorable.
It was a good time of year to go as there was not much humidity and the days were nice but some of  the wild life are hard to find due to the high water level. Overall though we were glad to have this experience and we wanted to do it on a more comfortable level and this resort ticked those boxes.

Jungle Stay

The tours would have been better in the dry season but our guide really tried to show us the Amazon.  The lodge itself was clean and we never had a bad meal.  If you take advantage of the tours in the afternoon you miss the power being off.  We would stay again. 

Great experience

The direct reservation and booking process through the resort, Irapay Amazon Lodge could do with a lot of IMPROVEMENTS!! We have been dealing with Roxana and Karina. Trying to make a booking directly with the hotel and not getting anywhere after emailing them back and forth for 2 weeks! You send them all your details by email, name, travel dates, which package you are after. But they will not send you back any form of booking confirmation or booking number! They tell you “Just send the document by paypal to make the payment”. 
They expect you to make payment, but you don’t even know if they have all your booking details correct? They send you one generic document with the price and their booking policy. You are expected to make 100% deposit on a payment link, (which isn’t even through PAYPAL by the way) with no where to place any booking details – just your credit card details and your email!! No wonder people have no choice but to go and through tour agents.
