La Luna Hostel de Montaña

I stayed here in September 2016 with a couple of friends. Thankfully we found this gem on AirBnb as it turned out to have one of the best cooks we came across in Peru. :) For as little as 5 soles for breakfast and 10 soles for lunch/dinner, you receive a home-cooked meal better than anything you can find in a restaurant. (Seriously, if you stay here, don't waste your time and money in a restaurant.) It wasn't located in the city center of Huaraz, but that wasn't an issue. It was peaceful to be away from the noise of the city and you can arrange any tours through the host that lives on-site.

Don't let the outside of this place fool you! It was a very lovely place to stay despite our first impression. My husband and I spent 5 nights at this hostel during our visit to Huaraz. When we arrived, our initial impression was that it was an abandoned building; however, upon a closer look, we found a clean, comfortable room with a nice sitting area and fireplace. The owner is one of the nicest people you will meet in Huaraz. She was accommodating and happy to help with anything we needed. She even made us sandwiches for one of our hikes. The place is not located very far from Huaraz and there are a few restaurants close by. We were also traveling with a very well-behaved dog so this property is pet-friendly. 

Travelling through South America by motorcycle, we found the Albergue de la Luna thanks to another rider we bumped into. It ended up being one of our favorite place in Peru for the following reasons. 
First and foremost the lady who owns the place is incredibly friendly and welcoming. She cooked for us on our first night and the other guests and us ended up taking turn to cook large family dinners every day. The ambiance was just wonderful and I suspect this owns to the slightly off centered location of the Hostel. The location was naturally never a problem for us since we had motorcycles, but if you plan on in hanging on downtown Huaraz everyday this might prove a problem.

Second, we found the rooms comfortable and pretty, definitely above standard given the price.

Third, the large sunny garden is a great place to hang out during the day to recover from long hikes in the Huascaran National Park.

Finally, if you are an overlander, this is probably one of the few places where you can comfortably park your car or motorcycle.
