Very close to freak street and close to the taxi stop, even if the city center is easily reacheable by walk.
I just spent 1 night here but I found it clean, nice and comfortable. Friendly and nice staff

Nice and clean place

I stayed there more than 2 months and shared the amazing culture of Nepal with a nepali family. Mohan, Shanti and Monish will welcome you with pleasure and tell you all about how to organise your trips around the country. Downstairs in the living room it's easy to meet other travellers ! Nice rooftop for breakfast in the sun with surrounding view ! Definitely the best place to stay in Kathmandu / Durbar Square area.  

Best GH near Durbar Square

We asked for a three person room and the owner promised us an extra mattress in a double room. When we decided to stay she wanted us to move the beds together and sleep in two beds with the three of us. The entire place, even the bathroom smelled like the dirty little dog they had walking around. The location is perfect and it is very cheap but thats basically it. The 'mattresses' on the beds where very very thin and the room very small.

Grumpy owner and wet-dog smell

We absolutely loved this guest house.  With just twelve rooms and housing the owner, his family, and their nice dog, it often feels more like a home.  Rather than an impersonal lobby there's a wonderful living room on the main level, filled with family mementos and religious artifacts.  On the stairway landings are book cases filled with books.  A nice, full breakfast (included in the room price) is served here, during which we often enjoyed seeing the owner's wife go about her morning puja or prayer rituals. We also enjoyed seeing the fruit and vegetable vender they buy from arrive each morning with his cart. The guesthouse is very quiet, and the room was clean and comfortable.  

It's located in a fascinating, old section of Kathmandu, just a few blocks from Durbar Square.  Unlike Thamel, the locals, going about their day-to-day business, far outnumber the tourists in the areas surrounding the square. An added advantage of the location is that upon presentation of proof that you're staying there, you can visit Durbar Square for free.  We also loved simply passing through Durbar Square on our way to and from the guesthouse.  Since this is an old section of the city, you can't expect new-looking accommodations, though.

The owner and his family were terrific hosts, and we learned a great deal about Nepal and Nepali culture from them.  They were extremely helpful at helping at offering us explanations and perspective on our experiences in Nepal, and we loved swapping family stories with them. We at times became so involved talking over breakfast that we got a later start on our day's itinerary than we'd planned, but this was time very well spent. We encountered a number of return guests, as well as others who had stayed here previously and others who had stopped by to enjoy a warm reunion.

Clean, comfortable, as close to a homestay as a guest house can get

Location very close to Durbar Square, making it central for sightseeing but noisy at night. Family run, who were helpful and friendly. Rooms a little dingy and tatty. 1200 rupees for room with bathroom, 800 rupees without.
