Sunrise Camp - Ali Hamad Zalabia

Ali & his family are wonderful, knowledgeable and kind. The best guides I came across in the Wadi Rum desert. The camp is clean, comfortable and has the most beautiful views! The swing on the sand dune was a highlight, and the food was delicious. If you have some extra time, stay as long as you can!! Highly recommend

Beautiful camp located in the middle of the Wadi rum desert.  Staying in this place allows you to fully enjoy the beauty and vastness of the desert, you are literally surrounded by sand and this sublime nature (you can also see beautiful sunrises and sunsets).  The camp is well organised, there are several typical tents where tourists can stay, a structure with clean and functioning bathrooms and a larger tent (very characteristic) where you can eat and experience Bedouin culture.  staying with them we also had the opportunity to do a jeep tour in the desert, but it is also possible to do camel tours etc.  Recommended.

My second stay at Ali's place, and certainly not the last one ! We stayed for 4 nights at the guesthouse in town and 3 at the camp in the desert. Ali and his oldest son Walid know every corner of the desert and are the best host. It's definitly the best place to stay for climbers since they know every routes and the will give you the advice you need.
We had very good food with vegetables available every day. Bathrooms are clean and there's even water in the camp. Use it carefully !

Amazing! We stayed for a few days in the guesthouse in the village and one night in the camp. The camp was clean, very friendly staff, Ali is super helpful with anything you need, just ask for a ride, water, tips for climbing, he knows it all. 
The tent is small but comfy, and the bathrooms are new. The communal tent was amazing, with half of it bulit into the rock. At night they start a fire and sing traditional beduin songs, a must exeprience. The dinner was very welcome after a whole day of climbing, rice with vegetables and chicken, variety of salads and baklava for dessert. It is in the walking distance of Khazali cannyon, which was filled with water at the time of our stay so it was spectacular.
The gusethouse in the village is basic but sufficient for climbers, some classic routes like the beauty, goldfinger, Salim and flight or fancy are 30min walk from the house. 
You can also pet their animals if you fancy that, they have camels, goats, dogs, cats and chicken. :))
Felt like home, they welcomed us like a part of the family.
Will definetly be coming back! :)

Rooms and common toilets are clean and well maintained. The main hut was very comfortable and all amenities were available. Being located in the heart of the desert, there’s no access to mobile network, so if you need to make calls or emails you’d have to drive a few minutes closer to the village to reach network. Overall, a very memorable experience.

We were traveling in Wadi Rum with our 5 months old baby. Ali’s wife was very responsive and arranged everything on short notice. She welcomed us at their guest house in Wadi Rum village with a nice cup of tea and explained us many things about the Bedouin culture and Wadi Rum.

We spent half a day on a jeep tour with Walid, Ali’s eldest son. Walid took special care with our little son, and adapted the program to fit the baby’s needs. He was very nice and tried to show us the most in the short time we had in Wadi Rum.

It was a wonderful experience, we can highly recommend!

Ali & family also have a lot of experience organizing trips to more remote places (out of the beaten track) in the desert, which we wish to do in a next trip when the kid is older…

I work in a very cosmopolitan company with over 30,000 employees from around the world. I’ve heard a lot from my Jordanian colleagues about how Jordan is overpriced and people trying to sell you things that cost more than what it’s worth, but this trip changed my mind!
First of all, i would highly recommend this family-run tour for its authenticity, thorough and great hospitality. 
Due to the nature of our work, we only had 52 hours in Jordan to cover Wadi Rum, Petra and the Dead Sea.
In order to make the most of our trip, we requested for our Wadi Rum tour to begin at 7am through the day and sleep one night at the Bedouins camp and requested for pickup to car park at 4am the next day.
Our schedule was very unusual however, Mr Ali catered to our needs and even organised a light breakfast for us before we leave for car park even though their breakfast service starts from 7am.

On the morning of 20th at 8am we were greeted by Mr Walid, son of Mr Ali. He’s a very decent down to earth person who drove us around the whole trip in Wadi Rum and even cooked our lunch for us!
We were glad to be early because we avoided all the tourist groups that arrived later after 10am. 
After visiting several places, we were surprised by lunch under a rocky shelter in the middle of the desert, which we thought would’ve been a buffet lunch full of people (we never liked being in the crowd when we travel).
The trip itself was wonderful because the guide aka our driver Mr Walid is a local, born and raised in the Wadi Rum desert. Nevertheless since we were early, we were alone in many places most of the time, which made the trip felt more like a honeymoon. 
Before Mr Walid sent us to the Bedouin Camp for dinner and bed, he brought us to a very nice spot where we can hike up and watch the sunset. That experience was indescribable! 
Dinner at the camp was amazing! We had some local salad, rice and some roast chicken which they cooked underground. 
It was indeed wholesome trip and we look forward to another longer stay with our family next year with the same host!


One of the greatest experiences of my life, Two nights in the desert under full moon with rocks around. During day visiiting interesting places in the desert with owner Ali, Ali is really kind and helpfull and he is making really autentic atmosphere of beduin´s life. Food is simple and tasty. 
Hope to get chance to come there again!

We stayed one night in Wadi Rum with Ali in the Sunrise Camp. Included was a 4WD Tour through the dessert, drinking tea with  a kind arabic lesson, whatching the amazing Sunset, enjoying delicious bedien food under milion of stars and breakfast. Ali was really helpful and supported us to get to Aqaba the next morning. 
We really had a wonderful stay at the Sunrise Camp. Thank you Ali for the never forget moments!
