We had never experienced Onsen and It's wonderful. The hotel is remote but provides everything, the most marvellous food, hot springs, large comfortable rooms and friendlyattentive staff. After a day's walking in the Alps this is a tonic. Highly recommended.

A complete pleasure.

Due to traveling from Mt.Fuji by public transport, it got quite late and we still hadn't reached Tajimakan. They ended up picking us up by car from the bus station to save us from walking, which really made getting to Tajimakan a lot easier.  
The lady at reception couldn't speak english, but she tried for a very long time translating on google to ensure that I understood what places to visit and how to get there. Which was extremely helpful. 

The location is very close to the bus that can take you to the shin hotaka ropeway and the takayama market. The two main things you could do in April. 
The restaurant is very nice. I found the food quite expensive, due to the amount of food we got, as I was traveling on a  backpacker budget, never the less very yummy! 

The rooms are very comfortable with a nice view of the mountains. The beds are very traditional, sleeping on a thin mattress on the floor. It was suprisingly very comfortable. The bathrooms were a bit rundown. The bathrooms did not have private showers. 

I had my first onsen experience at Tajimakan. It was really peaceful and a great introduction into this famous tradition.  

I would recommend going to Tajimakan for a nice peaceful place to relax.

Peaceful accommodation

Quite a wonderful place, it's the first time I go to an onsen, I have been with a friend who visited me from France. The Ryokan is situated on the mountain side, wonderful sceneries, we took a bus from takayama station (around 50min) the staff cant speak english but they do their best to make you feel comfortable, my friend cant apeak japanese and i am beginner but that was enough. Food is heaven, local products. The menu is already set and it is included in the charges, typical japanese set menu with many dishes to taste.
They provide you with yukata to put on an relax all the time.
Only negatif point is that there is basically no thing to do around. Which might be a good point actually, it just forces you to slow down and relax

Japanese ryokan , on mountain side

Our group of 10 stayed there for 3 nights from 7 Oct to 10 Oct. The entire Takayama was overbooked due to the Autumn Festival falling on 9 Oct. It was the only accommodation that had enough rooms for our group. Facility is a little run down. We reached the ryokan via rental car. It is quite far from Takayama old town. The staff was friendly and accommodating with all sorts of requests.

Quiet ryokan

We arrived today, start of a 5 day trip. I booked here as it came up as being in Takayama, or so I thought, beginner's error, in reality it is 45km away, there is nothing round here, no restaurants, no ATM, nothing, there is no bar in the hotel, the mini bar is empty. OK, mountains, they have mountains. We walked 15 mins in the rain as the bus skipped stop 44, no idea why. Restaurant in hotel closed. My pal says it's like the hotel in The Shining, I think he is wrong but I just saw two girls in the corridor but that can't be right as there was a bar in The Shining. 

The onsen is a bonus but they are not rare round here. Maybe we will try it tomorrow but first we are taking a 1,400 yen bus ride back to Takayama to buy some food. If I hadn't paid in advance I would bin it.
