Ueki Onsen Takanoya

This is a very traditional and cosy onsen ryokan which provides wonderful meals and bathing experience. They have inside and outside bath which can be bathed in as often as you like during the stay. Also they have 4 private bath rooms you can book at the reception. They are very popular with day-use locals because of the quality of onsen water. Really beautiful Japanese atmosphere. It is not easy to get to but if you are passing by this place is worth a try! 

Nice stay in the Japanese country side a good base between the city and the surrounding Aso area. Onsen(japanese style bath) facilities very good the water quality is good for a soft skin, with the owners even producing their own body lotion from the water. In particular the service and food were of very high standards with the rooms being clean and simple. Thoughroughly reccommended for a tradional Japanese experience!!!

I went with a mix of family and friends. We were very kindly shown to our room where we changed for a visit to the onsen. The water was truly good, with plenty of minerals. In the bath they only had traditional amenities so you should be used to the bathing ritual. After being thoroughly cleansed and relaxed we went back to the room to find the table set for dinner. The food was a GREAT mix of local seafood and traditional rural cooking, very well prepared and displayed. Having enjoyed the food, we went down for another bath and when we returned they had set our beds. The sleep was great.
The only downside, if one can call it that, was that the rooms were a little square, but then that seems to go with great onsens.

Wonderful Onsen Experience!

Great Experience

The food was on the disappointing side: you could tell some dishes like the sashimi were made ahead of time and placed in the refrigerator for several hours. The cooked dishes were prepared with too much soy sauce. However, the staff's friendliness made up for the lack of charm.  They put an internet booster in our room so we could access WIFI and gave us tips on where to go the next day, including giving us a print out of a map.  This was a good place to break up our drive between Yanagawa and Kurokawa.
